actually its apparent you didn't read the article yourself. that you bring up film at all shows you don't understand how it works. the tricks used by film to fool the eye into bluring frames together are not applicable to gaming. let alone crisp computer displays of most things. most people can see the flicker of a 60hz monitor to boot. anyways you aren't making much sense with your posts. you seem to want to take both sides simultenously. we aren't talking the science of perception, but whether low frame rates affect the playability games. and it is clear that having only 30 fps is far from optimal.

From everything I've read and heard 60 or above is acceptable for most people. However some people who have problems with migraines are more sensitive and need rates 75 to 85 or higher.

I have very sensitive eyes I can see ghosting on the highest quality LCDs and I can see flicker under 85Hz, everyone I've talked to says that 75Hz is their minimum before they start seeing flicker.

if the human eye can only see 30 frames than why do we need 100fps and 80Hz? just thinking about it the human eye must be able to see more than 30.

The reason is that the 100fps ratings you often see are the maximum framerates possible. On average the actual framerate would be lower and there would be times when it would dip down significantly more.

So, if you ran at 30FPS, there would be times when it would dip into the 20's and even single digits to low teens in games.

As for refresh rates. For Monitors, you'd be pretty hard pressed to see flicker even in the 60hz range, but, a lot of people can get eye strain with extended use with that kind of refresh rate. Higher refresh rates significantly reduce this.

Response times are the length of time it takes for the LED to turn on or off. so, if the response time is low, you can end up seeing image ghosts when making rapid movements. Things like seeing mouse trails or motion blur in a First person shooter. Having fast response time reduces/eliminates the problem. It's over simplified, but a good way to look at it.

edit: its like in games set ur max fps to 30 than put it to 100 u will see a diff.
WHERE THE F**K DO YOU GET 80HZ FROM? IS THIS SOME KIND OF MADE NUMBER YOU THOUGHT OF IN YOUR HEAD? IT'S 85HZ, GET THAT RIGHT FOR LAST FREAKIN' TIME.

Not sure what you are getting so pissed off about, since you are wrong. Any Hz rating can be a working refresh rate. Which includes 80Hz.

Viewsonic P225fB specs

"See it all with 2048x1536 maximum resolution
With a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 you'll scroll less as you fit more on the screen. And your eyes will rest easy with across-the-board flicker-free resolutions.

2048x1536 @ 79HZ
1920x1440 @ 84Hz
1856x1392 @ 87Hz
1600x1200 @ 99Hz
1280x1024 @ 115Hz"

Viewsonic lists 5 refresh rates, and not one of them is one of the 6 you listed above.

phosphors are constantly fading while the beam flashes across the screen line by line. flicker is definetly detectable

Misinformation++

you can change the refresh rate on an lcd monitor...and the response time of all crt monitors are extremely low, that's why it's not advertised. cheap lcds ghost, cheap crts blink.

Response time of even the low end CRTs is less than 1ms.

this is why all the hardcore gamers use crt's i know mostlty every pro cs player uses a crt.
that is why 3D lost cpl....dam lcd's.
