Do component cables make a difference on non-HDTV TVs?

I have a 32" Wega and wondering if it's worth picking up Hi-Def (Component) cable for my X-Box. Will it make any difference in games?

Slightly if you have a high-quality TV, but the difference is negligible.

I think the difference will be very slight, if any. If you have it already, go ahead and use it. If you are going to spend $20 on this adapter or whatever it is, forget it, not worth the money.

Component Cables are not considered Hi-Def cables all they do is seperate out colors so essentially they have more bandwidth for each color. They have be around for quite some time especially with the rear projection TV's. You would probably see an improvement great improvement over the yellow rca(can't remember the name) video and you should have a slight improvement over S-Video, S-video also seperates colors and scan rates and this is why you get a sharper picture but its still on one cable where each wire can interfere easily with the others.

From my experience with going from Yellow RCA -> S-Video on my playstation I saw a much much sharper image and better colors.

Composite <<<< S-video < Component

If you're already using s-video the advantages won't be huge.

If you do have a HDTV, the differences would be huge (because of the higher resolution), if not, it will still be slightly better than s-video. Just depends on which kind of tv you have, and the budget :). But if you do have a surround sound system, definately go ahead and pick up the hi-def pack, 5.1 surround sound :).

I don't know about the xbox. But for DVDs it makes a nice difference. I have my 32" Wega hooked up with Component cables and it looks great. I also recommend calibrating it with Avia. With the component cables and Avia movies look GREAT!

Awesome. Too bad it has only one component input. Right now I have my TiVo hooked up through it, which doesn't make too much sense, sinec TiVo input comes through regular cable so the quality is already lost.

Btw, could you give me more info about Avia? Is that a tool? A company?

Avia is a calibration DVD. It helps you calibrate your color and your surround sound. It gives you a step by step tutorial on how to do this. You should definitely pick it up. In my opinion it makes a huge difference.

You can buy a replacement A/V Cable at your local Bestbuy/Electronic store. I don't think Sony themselves make them but other companies do. Your A/V cable is the one that has the Yellow(Video) and Red/White(Audio) connected to the back of your playstation. The replacement will have an additional one that is S-Video so even if you don't have S-Video Capabilities you can always just switch to the Yellow. This is good because you can quickly change from Svideo -> Yellow and see how much sharper it is.

Absolutely. Especially with color depth/resolution.

Pretty significant jump over s-video.

If you also configure the brightness, color, contrast, etc... THen yeah it can. I was watching one of my Star Wars ep 2 (I think) DVDs a while ago and noticed that there was a little THX thing at the bottom of the main menu and that I could select it.

It ran through some video tests so I could set my TV to have the best picture output and it TOTALLY looked way better afterwards. But then the regular TV looked like crap so I had to change it back. I never noticed it was there before...
