Do Command Prompt (C:) connections timeout by themselves?

I have had a Command Prompt/Telnet window open and minimized to keep an eye on my router. I've noticed that it's closing/"connection to host lost" all by itelf after about two minutes of inactivity in that window. Is this normal?

Could be the router, the Netgear ISDN router we had at my old job would break a telnet connection after a period of inactivity.

If its opened by typing "telnet blah" at the run prompt, it will close itself when the connection terminates, but if you goto a command prompt first, then type telnet, the window stays open because Windows can't assuming you don't need the command prompt for something else.

Note of course this doesn't explain WHY your connection times out in the first place.

Thanks guys. I just "hard rebooted" (yanked the power cord) the router for the first time in about 6 months (really). I have soft rebooted, from the router's menu after configuration changes a half dozen times, but never hard rebooted. Let's see what happens.

Thanks again. :)
