Do Cigarettes expire?

Bullet points for easy reading:
-There's a 20-pack carton of Rothman's cigarettes that was packed in June 2005, in my storage room. Bought by my Dad back then. There's 17 packs in it.
-Dad had a moment of clarity and he quit cigarettes over an year ago.
-I was feeling kind of lazy to go out and get cigarettes, so 10 minutes ago, I grabbed a pack from the carton.
-I have never smoked Rothman's before but damn, these cigarettes taste lame.

Dilemma: I don't know if it's the brand that sucks, or the cigarettes have gone stale. 15 months isn't that long, is it? So, which one is it?

Edit: I just saw this post referenced in a screenshot on Instagram in Nov 2023 lmao.

A year and change is a fair amount of time for anything meant to be smoked to sit around. It still got you your fix right?

I don't know, it calmed my senses alright but I don't think I wanna finish this pack. And I seriously can't imagine someone smoking this out of choice. I can't seem to stand it even for free. And I usually smoke anything when I'm desperate😛

They go stale, those are probably bad. Keeping them stored in the freezer extends their life though.

Sounds like this might be a way to quit?

LOL, or at least I will quit this brand. I do intend on quitting for good pretty soon. I went from smoking like 15-cigarettes a day to around 5-7. I currently just smoke a cigarette after each meal, and with coffee and snacks. Yeah, smoking is pretty bad for you. Teeth look kinda funny if you skip dental appointments, prices keep going up...but at least I have a cool throaty voice!

You definitely don't want to smoke expired cigarettes. That would be bad for you.

Yeah, you have to think about the health risks for smoking expired cigarettes. Stick with fresh ones

They get stale.

I remember getting "K" rations during training in the corp that were made during the Korean war. They came with these tiny packs of smokes (4 per pack) DAMN those were tasty! 😉

Sounds like they went stale, I know people that put cartons in the freezer to keep them "fresh", and always bitch when someone gives them a cig that's just been lying around for eons.

<--- Doesn't touch the stuff, w00t

That's a great idea for a TV series!
