Do CD rippers still get the song names online?

They used to analyze the tracks and figure out the CD and song titles.
Does this not work any more?

I think the best way is to rip tracks, get song names, convert to mp3, burn to disc.
I am stuck at the get song names step.
They are all on my HD now with names such as Track01, Track02, etc...
FreeDB doesn't seem to be working, do i ahve to register with them, and set up EAC to do smethign with that information?

You need to get the track names BEFORE you rip.

You can even set EAC to automatically pull CDDB info when you insert a disc, but you need to do it before the rip.

I hope you didn't rip a significant number of discs this way...

I just use WMP10 and it does it just fine. Doesn't amtter what order you do it in either as it wil update the info if it starts ripping before it gets the data. And you can go through and fix the errors that sometimes get downloaded.

I use this program: ID3-TagIT

You don't have to rip them all over again / rename individually this way:

1. Highlight all the tracks you want to label ( you have to make sure they are in playing order -> Track0 followed by Track1 etc. )

2. Click Extended Functions->Query FreeDB

3. Wait for the list to load and pick the one you want to use to label the tracks ( There are usually a bunch of slightly differently formatted labels ) - Apply the ID3 Labels

4. Right click on the highlighted tracks and Convert the ID3 Labels to Filenames.

Can it do that from tracks already ripped? I can't imagine it being as accurate as coming straight from the CD, since there is more taken into account than just track numbers/length.

Yep, thats what it does, although you should read over some of the tracks to make sure they match, if not theres probably a entry that does.

Though it would save him the hassle of dealing with stuff he already ripped.

cddb is called gracenote now... i think the servers have the same domain name though. Maybe this has something to do with it?

Nero works.
Just select CD COPY and then select audio CD or if you really want (user defined)
I have good success with just about everything except DVD movies with Nero.
