Oh I think I get it. Your room has an RJ-45 jack, but no coaxial jack... If that's the case no you can't get cable TV from a networking line.

But if you have an actual cable jack, connected to a cable modem...
1. Try connecting to TV
2. ?
3. Profit

you'll need a splitter to watch TV and surf the web at the same time, but yes, it uses the same line.

Apparently in some situations, if you are only paying for internet you end up getting TV anyway with a splitter.

Used to work for me, then Comcast started blocking it. Gave me a perfect reason to get a DirecTiVo.

yep, go to a splitter and hook one up to the tv, and the other to the cable modem

unless you are paying for the tv service, it wouldnt work. they would have placed a filter on the line to only allow internet

You might think that.
After I signed up for RoadRunner cable internet service, I put on a splitter and was able to watch cable TV for over a year before they got around to slapping on a filter to filter out TV frequencies.

FIOS is really interesting because they use a totally different setup for home distribution.

If anyone is interested in buying one or more brand new lifetime warrantied Magnavox 8-way Coax splitters, let me know. I've got some extras that I'm trying to pawn off and it seems that some of you in this thread may be able to use them.
