Do both TurboTax and TaxCut suck this year?

So I'm finally about to start doing my taxes this year. I was looking up TaxCut and TurboTax on Amazon and it seems that both of them apparently suck this year. Has anyone used either of them this year w/o problems?

BTW, I saw a few threads asking which software you WILL use, but I couldn't find anything talking about how easy it was once they actually did use a specific software.

Taxcut didn't have all the neccessary forms (had not been approved by IRS yet), so I tried to update. The update had the correct forms, but it would not install. I had to print the from off of the IRS website and fill it in by hand.

Tax cut worked fine for me. Only ten bucks at walmart, too. It was my first time using tax software, and it worked out well.

Tax Cut does not seem to retain all information from the previous years.
It was not detecting certain business replated depreciation items from the previous year and asked for the items agin.
Also, it did not retian dependants dates of birth.

TurboTax was always taking care of dependents. The business information was never asked for a second time.
I do not know if some of the TaxCut problems may have been due to inporting data last year from TurboTax.

I used turbotax. I didn't have any problems and I have the most deductions I've ever had(a home office and $19K in business expenses).

So you guys and gals w/o problems were able to d/l the updates and successfully complete your tax return?

I was able to complete my return in a matter of one hour with TaxCut...although it was a pretty simple return. No problems here.

I switched to TaxCut last year. It seemed to import my 2002 data without any problems, but then again, I don't have anything particularly complex about my tax return (just mortgage interest and assorted 1099-DIV forms to report), nor do I file electronically.

Interesting. I wonder why the reviews were so harsh. I don't recall them being as harsh this year as in the past (with the exception of the major backlash for C-Dilla last year)

You stuck w/ TaxCut this year?

Will Turbotax 2003 import from TaxCut 2002?

With the exception of dependent DOB, it looks like all the information from 2002 came into 2003

Why spend $20-30 on piece of crap tax programs, when you can get TaxAct Deluxe for $9.95, including a free electronic filing.

Picked up Taxcut deluxe free (via ATHD & CC)
E-filing is also free w/ this version.

I tried using the Update Manager in Taxcut to get the updated forms. It did not work. I tried downloading the manual update and running it, and it did not work. I checked the update readme, and the correct forms were included. So it was just a matter of the update process not working. Therefore, since I was ready to file my return, I just downloaded the form I needed from the IRS and filled it in by hand. Took 30 seconds because Taxcut had done the work, just would not print the specific form.

Overall, I am very happy with Taxcut. I was able to import last year's data without problems. The one bug in the program would not make me want to quit using it. I'm sure they will get it fixed next year, at least I hope they do.

Taxcut apparently has some problems running through business network proxies.

I ran both to compare. Taxcut had a MUCH larger return, however this was due to an error on it's part regarding taxation of QTPs. I ended up filing with Turbotax

I used TaxCut with no problems, and I had a moderate return (2 w2s, self-employment income with no 1099s, various other 1099s, long list of itemized deductions). Took me about 2.5 hours.
