Do Blu-Ray disks resemble regular DVDs?

Nocturnal

Lifer
Or do they have to be inserted into a case and then placed into their respective drives? I'm wondering if they resemeble the PSP disks?

..and the drive now is CRAZY expensive and it can only write at 2x and cannot write to cd-r's.

If money was no object, I would use it as a storage option. 😉

except the protective layer on BD is very thin, so after a while, kiss your BD goodbye.

Aren't they actually supposed to be coated in that thin layer of hard coating so that they're more resistant to scratches?

No offense, but this was taken care of quite some time ago, although I do still see people spreading the FUD about this aspect from time to time.

right, and the dvd people told us it would be scratch resistant too, so did every single storage media people before that. Every single one failed to deliver on that. What makes you think this is going to be better? Specially when pit size is reduced, making it much more subceptible to error due to scratch?

DVD and HD-DVD and BD are much more durable than you think. Its not like redbook CDs that if you scratch the top of the disc your music/data is toast. Even double sided DVDs can have the scratches removed on either side without destroying the data. The coatings are much thicker than cds.

If you think about it, that doesn't make any sense, how is it that they couldn't put this same resin on normal discs, why would it be now that they've decided to put the resin on these discs? I think it's a bunch of bull crap, these discs are going to get easily scratched whether you choose to believe it or not.

I didnt have any problems with CDs or DVDs and I expect BR to be same. If you store disks properly you shouldnt have any reason to complain.
