Do Athlons still have issues with AGP at higher than 1x?

I'd been under the impression that that problem had been fixed with the newer chipsets, but when I told a friend that I'd gone for a 1.33GHz Athlon with an Epox 8k7a, I got the "NO, YOU FOOL!" speach. I suppose I'll be able to find out for myself soon enough (where is that darned FedEx guy anyways?), but I'm nervous enough now that I thought I'd ask the experts, so to speak.

Don't worry about it, you should be fine. Sometimes things are a little wierd, but it isn't a problem anymore.

WTF? Your Epox board should have no trouble with AGP 4X. The one I just put together didn't any way.

I am using a Iwill KK266-R SDRAM mobo at the moment, and @ 165FSB, AGP4X runs flawlessly. The AGP 4X problem was with the early Slot A offerings, the AMD750 and the Via KX133 based motherboards.

Go smack your friend with a large trout for being an idiot. :)

Don't just do it for yourself, do it for the whole computer community. :)

Insane3D - I used to have problems with 4X on other chipsets when the Geforce first came out.

burn' I heard it mentioned once that the problem with the geforce cards may have been driver related as one guy said the problem arised when he installed new reference drivers and went away when he went back to the older ones...

Isn't it funny how misinformation flies around...Could be 2 years later or such but many will still think it is true like AMD or mobo companies wouldn't fix the issue...

I dealt with an individual just like that who was being the little birdie in the ear of someone I was trying to help build and amd system (tight budget, big expectations). I sat him down showed him the numbers and once he saw the new system fly now he is asking about amd products all the time and is looking at going the amd route...He did have a rough time with his super 7 board, which I tried to tell him was him since I had almost the exact matched system (cpu, mobo, ram, vid card, sound, etc.)and I had no compatability issues. He went Intel from his experience and took every opportunity to bash amd products from that point on.

Yea, I was the same way, at first, when Win95 came out. It gave me all sorts of problems and I hated it, but had to use it for the games I had. That changed though, by the time Win98 came out I was leary to give up Win95, because everything was working fine with it by then.
