What's a patel ElFenix?

An Indian most likely from the state of Punjab...and very possibly the most common Indian surname in the states.

Patels are from Gujurat, not Punjab. They are into the motel business in the US. They are stereotyped for being stingy (well the "true" Patels anyway).

I have one friend on Lake Norman who has a beat up Mazda pickup but they literally never drive it...it has the boat trailer permanently hitched and they drive it a few times during the summer all of half a mile!

But seein as there's a lot of Asians and Indians here (talkin bout the ones whose parents are from India, naturally) I was wonderin how many of you own a pickup truck or have one at your household.

Maybe that has to do with: They have almost no use in every day life. Look at Europe how many pickup trucks do u see here? Almost none. Most small craftsmen buisnesses use Vans and the like, gardeners and others do use flatbed trucks, but those are bigger than your Pickups - not the engine though, but equipment usually doesnt like to be crushed against the rear wall , so big engines are of no use, plus buisnesses usually are very concerned about efficiency - it is money u know...

How many Ford Rangers have you seen carrying a 3' stack of sheetrock or plywood? Good ole gigantic gas hogs.

Is this a joke?

I worked with an Indian surgeon who traded-in his minivan for a red full size Dodge Ram extended cab (4 door) 4x4. Mid-life crisis vehicle.

If you need one then buy it. I think I will buy one in 4-5 years when I am ready to buy a boat. It will take me that long to convince my GF that boat is well worth the money

An Indian surgeon I know (knew) drove a V10 Excursion. Last I heard, he died of a heart attack.

You don't have to buy a monster truck. You can always buy one of the smaller trucks, those aren't too bad.

My dad is the own of the previously mentioned supertruck, a '98 S10. It's his daily driver. He likes it cause it's the kind of car where he just doesn't give a crap if someone hits it with their doors or whatever.

Hmm, interesting replies. I don't think I'd get a lot of utility out of it (except maybe gettin' in good with some girls, helpin' em move furniture and stuffs :))...I'm more interested in having a cheap, low-maintenance vehicle with decent mileage and low insurance costs (don't compact pickups have like the lowest insurance rates?) I'm trying not to have more than 30k on my Accord once the lease is up, and I already have 20k and I'm not even halfway through year 2! Most of my commuting is done alone so I don't really care about passenger space.

My old GF, a cute Cambodian, drove a Chevy Silverado Sportside. I hated that truck - she bought it because she liked the aesthetic, but it was totally useless for day-to-day use. It had a standard cab, so every time we went shopping the cab was filled with bags and crap, because the bed was unsuitable for carrying anything small or fragile.

Tacoma Double Cab all up in hea!

Yeah I'm asian and I drive a pickup truck. I bought one for a number of reasons, which include the ability to haul more stuff than a car, more versatility than a SUV, lower insurance premiums, and so on. I also chose the Tacoma over a car partly because I didn't wanna be like every other asian guy in my area driving some Accord or Camry.

I know a couple of Patels from my high school...and yes, they do own a huge Comfort Inn in town, and have hotels elsewhere as well. The daughters are pretty cute too.
