Do any of you tip your postman during the holidays?

My Uncle always leaves a christmas card with a $20 bill inside the mailbox for the postman at this time of the year. He told me that it was customary practice, but no one else I know does it. Do any of you do this?

No...neither to I tip my garbage man.

I DO however tip the newspaper delivery guy. We live on a "motor route" where papers are just thrown in the driveway...but he gets out of his car and hangs the paper on my front doorknob every morning because he knows my back is FUBAR'd. for good customer service.

Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did however, tip my urologist, because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

:Q Federal employees aren't supposed to accept gifts over $20 if their relationship with the giver isn't personal.

But who cares. 😛

Thanks for reminding me OP. I also REALLY need to tip my garbage men, because I've been putting extra bags next to my can for months because of some home renovations and "spring cleaning" we've been doing (the garbage company said they'd take anything other than cement/stone).

we don't have one of those, we just pick our mail up @ the supermailbox

but if i had a mailman, i'd give him some peanut brittle for Christmas.

 You could if you tried, but you might die.

The point is that they are doing the service for you, and usually their employers are taking into account that you will tip them so they pay them substantially lower.

My mailman is an asshole bitch.

I don't know but he keeps delivering letters from the next door to my house. He did it multiple times. One time i caught him while he was delivering the mail. I showed him the letter. He was like "OHH sorry". I was like WTF, I guess that's what you expect from a federal employee anyway.

Does that count if he is just a contractor?

I always give him $20 for each household member. Never have any problems. If something gets left on the door,it's always wrapped up. Something big comes, he rings the bell.
I don't think the letter carriers get paid enough. What a crap job. Dealing with people like us who hold service personnel to such a high standard, weather, dogs.

My parents always get her a gift of some sort. Nothing big or fancy, but heck she does a good job. Even saw us check our mailbox before she had gotten there, so she drove to our house and gave it to us personally. 🙂

We leave him a gift bag of cookies and such on the door on Christmas Eve (today).
We leave the garbage men 3 cases of beer the last pickup before Christmas.

Christmas spirit people... Christmas spirit....
