Do any of you live in the ghetto?

Like Sount Central, Compton, etc, those kinds of ghettos. Or even ghettos in other states. Does anyone here live there or know anyone who lives there?

Are there tons of violence these days? Do you often see illegal things going down on the street corner? How often do you hear gun shots? Is it safe to let your children play during the day? What kind of curfews are you restricted with?

Thanks in advance.

I live in a fairly ghetto area. Theres been something like 14 shootings in the past year here, all kinds of drug activity going on and dilapidated houses on the north side of town (where I live). My town is an old industry town that is slowly decaying as a result of Bethlehem Steel closing down their factories in the area about 15 years ago.

Ghetto like compton? No. Ghetto enough that I wouldn't want to walk through certain parts of town in the middle of the night alone? Yes.

I live in cleveland... I'm one of the only white people on my street (if that means anything). In the past 6 months there have been cases of arson (1 house got completely burned down)... yesterday I saw like 6 black guys carrying chains walking down the street with those gay "low rider" 3 wheel bikes.. one of them had a ps1 and tv screen hooked up to it.

and the houses suck.. small and valueless... but i wouldn't compare it to compton or south central (although I have never been there.)

I have a relative that lives in the ghetto in the U.S. in Indianapolis. I've never seen anything like it before. Yes, everything and anything goes on there. Drug dealing, prostitution, people peeing on the grass. In fact, the cops frequent the area and they usually end up picking up someone.

It's amazing how good we have it. These people live in bad conditions and don't have proper food, nor internet, nor tv. They sit outside on the porch all day and get a dose of reality tv i guess. They don't even go to one another's home's to talk. They'll shout out loud from one porch to another.

It's scary.

Nope, but I used to do a lot of business in Compton, Inglewatts, South Central, Boyle Heights, Maywood, etc. Used to hire the gangbangers for security to keep an eye on our construction work we were doing in the area. Lived in Venice for about 8 years and that's pretty ghetto for a beach town.

When I am at school, yeah I live in the ghetto, but at home i live in a great community. I have heard a gun shot or two, I wouldnt let anything of value in an obvious place, and I would try and keep the kids close by, not too bad, but still the ghetto.

I live in Baltimore and pretty much the whole city is just one big ghetto of varying degrees. I live in one of the nicer parts right by Johns Hopkins University, but there is still plenty of mugging and such that goes on around here.

A few weeks ago I saw a story on the news where there was some police memo that identified four "kill zones" in the city. Yes, you heard that right, they call them kill zones. Those kill zones are the Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest. I sh!t you not.

Cleveland represent. :D Anyway, where I live it's not ghetto at all. However I'm about a 10 minute drive away from the ghetto.

Aren't there a lot of towns like that in PA?

I live about 6 blocks from a notoriously bad area, but my place isn't bad, and the rents are reasonable. . . Just high enough to keep it from being bad in my "hood."

I used to live in the Tenderloin district in San Francisco.

It was bad, but not as bad as some of the places you guys mentioned.

I used to live in a good part of vegas but they sent me to a trashy part of town for school. I don't know how bad it was compared to other places but it was enough to scare me (I was in elementary school). I heard gunshots a few times and there was a drive-by shooting at my school once. I'm sure I could've found drugs and all that around if I was looking.

i'm in seattle.... all those techies are scary with their handheld pdas and their drive by war chalking. Drugs sold on every single corner favourite drug is nicotine and caffeine. Beware of the ellusive IT nerd. They are truly a magnificient creature that only roam about during lunch break but not for too long some moron with too much caffeine might make their day hell good thing theres image files tucked away in his fanny pack ready to unlease it's fury at a moments notice. You have been warned.

Nope. My friend does though. He pays $350 a month for 2 bedroom apt too. But that place is in the hood, he keeps a baseball bat by the door just in case:Q

I hate visiting him in his hood. Everyone watches as my Lex goes by as if I am a drug dealer .... (those days are long over) ... I don't like that attention.

I live within the vincity of hte ghetto. It's bad enough that I don't want to have a aftermarket sound system or have a car that stands out from the crowd. All my friends who have had aftermarket sound systems have all had them stolen. That's quite a bit. Also I had a friend of mine murdered (drive-by) a few years back near my area (well 10km away from my house). So yea, I consider it a ghetto. There's a reason they call it Scarlem.

Venice has gotten much better IMHO. I'm right by Venice High (yes, I know that's not really Venice) and Vence has really cleaned up the last few years. I agree tho, it used to be pretty bad.
