Do any of you like Honda Preludes?

If I get this job that I'm looking at, I think I could definitly be in the market for a new car. I'm 18, and I don't have many bills (currrent car payment and insurance) to pay since I'm bumming off my parents. I really love Honda Preludes, and I would like to have one. As of right now, my ideal car would be a green 1997 Honda Prelude, 5 speed, with a spoiler.

Do any of you like the prelude? 😀

I like all pre-1992 Preludes. They got ugly after the 3rd generation. Plus you can't beat the 3rd gen's 2.0 Si 4WS. I'll always have a soft spot for a nice 2.0 Si 4WS Prelude. The newer ones run strong, I just think that the older ones are far more attractive.

ZV

EDIT: I should also note that I HATE riced cars of any sort, Preludes included.

Well, the look of the last gen Prelude has grown on me... it's not a bad car at all. One of my friends owns a white one with the factory body kit on it. Very clean looking. Unfortunately, after riding in my car and realizing his car wasn't that fast... he's given up on any prospects of doing anything to the car. It handles quite well & has a good engine... just don't go around thinking that your high 15 second car is the $h1t. It's mostly just pretty... and it's another Honduh torquelesswonder.

The nice thing about the Lude is that it seems _most_ ricers avoid it since it's a bit out of their price range. I think it would be a great car for a young guy... but plz learn to drive first.

I really don't care for turbos, etc. I don't race people from stop-light to stop-light, or further more, I don't race at all. Power won't be an issue.

While the "92 - "96 models have better exterior styling, I prefer the interior of the 97+ models. 🙂

the newer ones are pretty sweet...

my buddie had a 92 prelude 4wsi but he just wrecked it 🙁 it had 240k miles on it though...

I like Preludes... it's the only Honda car I would actually not mind driving.. not that they are bad cars... just not appealing... only the 'lude.

They're nice cars, but do you really think you can afford one at 18?

Keep in mind if you can even get financing you'll be paying high 20's interest, plus your insurance will be a lot ($250+ a month, probably).

What kind of income do you have?

Viper GTS

yes, great car. good speed, good gas milage, good looks honda reliability 🙂

it's a bit overpriced though in my opinion..you could get a very similar integra gs-r for much less.

LMAO! You think that I'll be the one getting it financed? 🙂 I have already worked out a deal with my mom, where she'll finance it (or take out a loan), since she has PERFECT credit, but I'll be paying the payments. I'll be trading my '89 Maxima in with the car purchase (if I find one at a dealership, if not, I'll just sell the biatch). Plus, I'm under my parents insurance. I figure that I can find a '97 for around 11-12k, and can sell my Maxima for 2.5k, and I'll put 2k of my own money down.

I'll be working at Gateway Country. I have already had an interview with the Manager, but I'm just waiting for him to get back in touch with me 🙂

The Prelude has always been Honda's technological showcase, the Integra is little more than a zippy Civic.

i have a prelude

it's a 97

it's green

😉

and i'm 18

got questions? i got answers 😉

and why would you want a gsr?

after driving a prelude, a gsr is a step down 😀

Where do you live, and do you ever keep your doors unlocked during certain times? 😉 Are you willing to sell (now's a better time than any!)? 😀

Questions...

DO you like it?

Ummm, damn, I 'm good at this kind of stuff. How about you just tell me about your experience with it?

Is insurance killing you? HOw much do you pay?

When did you buy it, and how much did you buy it for?

My friend owns a white '98 Prelude. Has factory kit. He had the engine rebuilt, tossed in the Jackson Racing supercharger.. it runs pretty nice, handles well. Good all around car. Too bad he won't let me autox in it.. 😛

insurance is 2800 for a year, after 20% discount (10 for employee disc or something liek that, 10 for multicar)

i got it for 15.7 after taxes and reg, i put a whopping 8k down

i live in so kali, and i have a clifford alarm so it locks when i arm it, i leave the sunroof open all the time though (i have full confidence in my alarm)

and no i'm not willing to sell (i want a vw gti, or a cooper S); i've surprisingly put a grip of money into the car, even though it looks stock (HU/system, alarm, HIDS =2500++ :Q)

pro's = great fun to drive, more than adequate power to get around, pretty much all options come stock, stock system is pretty good (for what it is)

con's = no potential; if you want a 12second honda, get a civic or something, if you want something great out of the factory, prelude = ::bigthumb, insurance on it does suck, pointless rear passenger seats (but true for most sports car)

hey, the prelude was rated the best sports car under 30k (this was before the wrx's and shiz), and i do believe em 😉

i mean for an 18 year old kid, it's a great car

potential problems: the biggest one is weak ass shift forks; if you go check out preludes, they have a habit of losing 5th gear, if you test drive one, make sure it doesn't grind 5th gear!

the SS tranny is crap, dont' buy an SS. EVER

edit:

yeah, everybody and their mom has an OEM kit, i want one too, but it's 900 (if you can find it...); jsrc's are nice, but it's 4500 installed, and that'll get you into low 14's if you're a decent driver, high 13's if you throw on some bolt ons (it's been done)

check out preludeonline.com,it's 6bucks to register, but you can view and stuff for free

My advice would be to think about it for a while...

When I was your age I was making nearly $30K a year, I topped $30K before I turned 19. I was still living with my parents. I am infinitely grateful to the people who talked me out of buying an expensive vehicle, I don't need the financial burden / commitment right now.

I can't imagine you'll be making much working at GW Country, you should try making a "car payment" into a bank account for a while & see how much you really like paying that large a percentage of your income for a vehicle.

if the integra is little more than a zippy civic then the prelude is little more than a faster accord. other than atts, a slightly torquier engine, and few extra pounds 🙂, there isn't much that a prelude offers over an integra.

and i don't recall any "type R" preludes being made now do you?

Jules

Just got my 2001 lude about two weeks ago. I love this car! True about the torque though...it doesn't have a lot of low end torque like all other hondas. Still a blast to drive though. I picked it over an integra because the insurance was lower...but now I know I got a lot more car for the money.

I had a 86 prelude that I loved to death. Finaly blew the trans at 190k miles.

I want to be an irresponsible teen, and I want to be one now!!!! :|
😀

I'm still considering an older prelude, though, so if the right deal comes around, I'll jump on it 🙂 Again, this is all dependant upon getting the job.

BTW - I'll be making $10.50 an hour, with a minimum of 30 hours a week.

you don't see any type S integra's out there do you? 😉

the prelude imho has a better shifter feel, much more useful cup holders, and isn't associated with rice as much
i prefer the prelude interior over the integra

when i was lookin at cars to buy, i also looked at a 96 GSR, and i found the prelude to be waaaaaaaay better
