Do any of you have experience RMAing SSDs to OCZ?

My Vertex 2 died and I'm wondering:

- how long the RMA process takes
- how best to ship to drive out
- what will they ship me if they no longer have any Vertex 2s?

I dont have experience with OCZ RMA's but from other companies...all I can say is be prepared to wait, and make sure you package the SSD well/properly when shipping out.

about 2 weeks on average

original package with cardboard wrapped around it for added protection and slipped into a simple bubble wrap envelope would be more than most would do.

Vertex 2 should still be in ample supply but keep in mind that if you had an older 34nm model?.. they will likely ship you a slower/newer 24nm version. Or you could ask specifically for a Vertex 3 since they don't panic lock nearly as easily as the first gens did/do. Good luck with it all

I just got an RMA unit Vertex 2 240 GB unit from OCZ.
I would say it will depend where you are.
Since I am in Brazil, it took about weeks, but if you are in USA I believe it takes half of that.
My unit was shipped from CA, but I have a friend that RMAed a unit, and it came from Shangai.
So I doubt it that they will not have Vertex 2 units available.

When I requested an RMA last week, I had to go through a process of proving that the drive was bad before they would even let me send it back. At this point, I purchased a new SSD as I don't have time to deal with them and be done for multiple weeks.

I rma'd some usb drives with ocz, didn't take that long. Took a few days after you fill out the rma form to get it authorized, sent it to the address they specified and a new one was shipped out within a few days.

Yea, about 2 weeks. I asked to do the Advanced RMA, but they didn't have my drive in stock so I had to wait for one to come from over seas. Even with that, I think it was about 2 weeks. I think had they had it in stock and I did the advanced rma, it would have been just a few days.

Did you have to prove the drive was bad? What about getting on the latest Firmware?

Somewhere during the process I had to explain that the drive would only power up for 5 minutes then crash. Something happened to it's power system that would only allow it to stay on for 5 minutes before losing power.

That was good enough for them.
