in 8th grade, the entire 8th grade class went on a retreat to some campsite place.. it was pretty creepy when we went. dark woods... like a scene from some horror film.. anyway.. so all the boys split up into two cabins..

that night, in my cabin, no one wanted to sleep, so we pushed the bunks together and sat around in a circle.. we had a homemade ouija board, so i thought "yah right, how the hell is that supposed to work".. they were asking questions and "babe ruth" was answering all these questions that we asked.. blah blah blah.. i put my finger on it, but i just figured one of the other kids was moving it... we asked if he was really there, he said yes.. we asked him to prove it by turning off a flashlight... keep in mind, this is a flashlight with brand new batteries put in that morning.. it was really bright, and right when we asked "babe ruth" to turn off the light, the flashlight dimmed out till it was completely out.. the switch still in the on position... i've never played with it again.. it was pretty damn freaky...

Come back after you've done that with a Surefire. ;)

It took them years to recover from the bankruptcy. Certain family members actually died, and the wife still has flashbacks.

Personally I would stay away. If you think it is a bunch of hooey - just stay away anyway. It's not worth your time - or your life.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Ouija somehow has this wierd fascination of people wanting to tell their own stores perpetuating it as a product?

I mean.. I could tell about the story where a few of us got together and played with a Ouija board and it moved.. but I swear one of us had to be moving it - even though I was not the one moving it... and I could be like OMG OMG OMG it was real.. but it's just so tempting to move it myself.

Or, I could be one of those people that says "Oh ya.. a bunch of good friends and I got together and we tried it and it didn't move at all.. NADA... ZIP..."

Anyway, I'd like to say it's all bunk. There's no supernatural for an Ouija board to connect to (though I'd really like to believe there was) and an Ouija board only moves if one of the 'players' moves it.

Google the following: "motor automatism"

Dowsing rods, ouija boards, and other similar "things" work on the same concepts.

There is a large amount of psychological literature out there on the topic. It's a pile of horse crap, like many other things.

...and if you believe it's connected to "demonic forces" like Neos, maybe you should hang out with that lady from Trading Spouses.

Edit: Have you ever opened a heavy door to find it moves easily, for an instant think "wow, that moved pretty easily...maybe I'm really strong!" and found someone on the other side? Same concept. The traditional visual cues we use to establish authorship to action are disabled or not present, so we invent an external force to account for it...until we see the other person on the other side, put two and two together, and realize that you were pulling on the door while she was pushing.

The fact that it moves has nothing to do with the supernatural, that's just a natural human reaction. We did something similar in a "team building" class at work, where a group of 8 or 9 of us was asked to hold a hoola hoop at a specific height. Sure enough, the hoop would creep up inch by inch until we were holding it practically above our heads. And everyone swore that they weren't moving it. Demonically influenced hoola hoop? :Q

As for how it creates answers to questions, I really don't know. I mean, even accepting the fact that it isn't influenced by spiritual forces, I'm not sure how a collective group of people move the thing in such a way as to create a cohesive answer.

Of course IT can't. The thing is there is a demensional place where the demonic abide. They can use anything they choose - even certain humans.

I wonder, do you need skill to sucker people in the way the makers of oigie boards do, or is it just dumb luck? What would it take for a Jesus Board to succeed financially?

If anyone can demonstrate that it works under controlled conditions (agreed to beforehand by both parties) the James Randi Educational Foundation will award them $1,000,000.00.

These things are a crock; I cannot believe that so many supposedly educated people could think otherwise.

A girl and I used one back in 9th grade (rumor has it the board works better with one male and one female). She told me to ask it anything I wanted when it was my turn.

I asked it if she was going to sleep with me, and she did!

Ouija Boards FTW!

Here's a hint: gasoline burns.

Water doesn't. I know it's easy to confuse the two, but really...when was the last time you tried to run your car from the stuff off the tap?

You do realize you have to actually light the gasoline with something, right? Oh wait, its a Ouija board so it should've spontaneously combusted into flame and burned down your house...

Ouiji boards are made of a super secret government-made material for the fighter jets of the future. It can't be burned, bent, exploded, cut, or drilled. In fact, because of this, Milton Bradley cannot actually make a Ouiji board. They are bred! :Q
