Do any of you have a fear of flying?

When I was younger flying never bothered me and I can say I even enjoyed it. I usually fly several times a year but the last time I flew, the plane ran into some pretty bad turbulance and it was pretty unsettling. I leave tomorrow on a flight and I'm real nervous about it, any suggestions on how to calm my nerves?

The only part of flying I don't like is landing. Oh and when flight attendants like like they are scared sh!tless and franticly trying to buckle themselves in. That's not cool.

Smoke a big Phatty before you leave that should settle your nerves. Either that or I hear oxycotin (sp?) works wonders.....

benzodiazepines;)

Seriously though, flying is the safest way to travel. Planes can take one hell of a beating in the air and still limp back to an airport.

My parents dragged me all over the globe starting when I was 7, kinda got used to it.

Just bring some good quality headphones for your Discman, and make ample use of the planes bar service, that's my advice.

I actually flew a small plane... friend is a pilot and he let me have the controls for a quick second or three (stfu about any laws)...

I don't have a fear of flying... I don't know anyone with a fear of flying.

A fear of being in a plane crashing into the ground... that's different ;)

The more you learn about it the safer it seems, to me anyway. I watched the Discovery Wings channel one time where they were destructively testing the wings of a 777, the frickin things bent until the tip was like 15' above the root, it failed at a million pounds. Airplanes are built ridiculously strong and the pilots have thousands of hours and years of training. It's pretty safe.

No, but for the sake of your fellow passangers don't become a drunk a-hole. I've often noticed that as a way that others medicate themselves on plane flights.

First of all it's P-I-L-O-T. Secondly, if you live in the U.S. no you won't be. You must be 17 years old to hold a Private Pilot License.

Why? If flying hasn't gotten safter because of the security checks alone, hijacking as a form of terrorism is not going to work anymore. No passengers are going to sit idlely by while some terrorists attempt to fly a plane into a building.
