Do any car sites compare interior noise?

I think this is motly subjective for people that review cars... a controlled test isn't something most of these people would bother to do, but is certainly possible. I could be wrong though, I don't browse many automotive sites.

Oh, and I think the Camry's cabin is quieter from my experience.

good question, i would be very interested to know.

although I think there would be some variables involved. namely, size of tires/wheels

Just don't get a Mazda MX-3. They sound like a tornado from the inside... I still love mine, though.

My Camry is very quiet, but it is also the hybrid which has a noise reduction windshield.

There are two many variables to be able to accurately gauge this.
Seals settle differently between car doors allowing more wind noise on some cars. Tires wear differently if the alignment is out of spec. Different tires make a difference. Some transmissions are natually noisier. If you bang the exhaust on something, it may be louder due to a leak. I guess you could compare brand new cars, but as the cars age, the data would be terribly inaccurate.

Very cool! How do you find that on Edmunds. I looked all over the cars and reviews, and I could not see that data.

I agree with you. My 1993 Camry LE Touring (top of the line) even after 18 years on the road (but only 160.K) is quieter both city and highway, than most of the brand new ones I test drove recently (Altima,Sonata, Accord, Optima, and even the 2012 Camry XLE Hybrid!). I guess I would have to move up to the ES350 to find the equivalent or better... but that is another budget. Why should the hybrids be noisy anyway?

This is only half of the needed information.
Frequency is almost as important as dB.

Think about it: What's more annoying, 100 Hz at 80 dB or 10 Khz at 80 dB?
(Not that I'm saying a car will produce a 10 KHz noise)

Best thing to do is to go out and test drive as many cars as you can. 2-3 tests won't cut it. More like 10-20 to get a comfortable feel.

BTW, Camrys are quieter than all Hondas/Accord. Avalon is quieter than Camry.

Lexus, Audi's, Caddys, Benzes and the top end Hyundais have a philosophy to build them quiet, but you probably already know this.

I'm pretty sure almost every car maker has implemented appliance like "sound proofing" to most of their cars.

Personally, I hate it. I want to hear the engine and feel it work.

Lexus/Toyota is notorious for this.......

Nissan Altimas had the most quiet interior of any car that I had test driven.

There's a limit to how quiet the interior of a car can be, otherwise you couldn't hear sirens.
That's why they have flashing lights in the grill.
A car with a sportier ride will transmit more vibration to the unibody making the car noisier. If you want a quiet ride get something soft and cushy.
