Do Anti-Bark Shock Collars work?

Shock collars do work...even for cats. However; I recommend anyone purchasing one to try it first on themselves.

One of the chicks I used to live with had a dog that figured out if he barked crazily as she held the collar she'd get shocked. It was funny.

I reality though proper training as a puppy/kitten would eliminate the need for more aggressive measures in their later lives.

dogs get used to both over time and bark when they really want to anyway. my SIL has both, the collar i thought was cruel at first too. i shocked myself with it, but it really isnt that huge of a jolt. not too bad IMO. the collar worked for a long time, until he got used to it after about a year. then he would bark anyway when he really wanted to get the point across. the sonic thing is ok too, but they will bark after a while also. i dont have the prob with my dog barking, hes too quiet all the time.

thank you for posting this, I have neighbor who are too lazy to train their dog, they let the damn thing out at various times in the night and leave it out to bark and it wakes the whole neighborhood. I found one that operates on a 9 volt battery and is good up to 50 ft. It looks like a small birdhouse and is designed for the outdoors....I hope this thing works.

Proper training can include a shock collar, depending on who you talk to, but I suspect you're an expert on the matter so carry on.
 
I almost killed our little yapper with one.

I used one where the shock escalated as the dog continues to bark. Needless to say, she barked, and it shocked her. She was so surprised and barked again, and it shocked again but stronger. Now she so was freaked out and fearful, she barked louder and wouldn't stop. Next thing you know she's screaming like she just got hit by a car. It was nasty.

I finally was able to grab her and hold her mouth shut, and remove it. It probably took about a week for her eyes to sit back into her eye sockets again. We were surprised she didn't have a heart attack. I put the thing on my neck and made a loud sound, ala ace ventura...holy crap I jumped! Mind you this was the smallest one petsmart carried.
