Just watched my first game this morning. Not too interesting. It probably would be better if I knew the rules. (colored flags?)

Oh, and those guys flop too. :)

I think lack of quality people that can analysis and do good broadcast may be a cause. I watch some of the world cup here on espn. They are just weak when you say cp to a show of "NBA on NBC" etc.

Most soccer fan are related to their countries because
1. it is a nation pride thing. Just like we say "Go! USA!"
2. soccer is well developed in their countries, they are used to their stars and their league.
3. Remember. they are watching WORLD CUP. of course they are cheering for their countries. World cup is THE SPORT second to the Olympics where most of the world will complete and cheer about. cp to "World" series of baseball.....ah where is the world? Noboby care much about the world series in outside America but world cup.

there are teams that get you excited (more loose and offensive) and there are others. But you never know, if your next game to see is a high score one or a 0-0.

BTW, i grow up in Hong Kong where space is limited. We have mini-soccer field that a bit larger than a tennis court. 5 vs 5 or 7 vs 7 (whatever the number we can mix up). There is wall around the field up to 4 ft high. It is fun.
Soccer (football as most ppl said it is, it use foot most of the time, any part of the boby except hand) is fun to play.

ppl can nail a ball to the goal from mid of the field with force! Try to catch this with your boby and you will see soccer in another angle.
Try to play one game that you need to run 90 min in hot summer/cold snow and you will see why the player seems to walk all the time.

hehe i think i read an article in either newsweek or time on why we don't give a sh*t. we're a super power. theres no pleasure in beating a 3rd world country. losing is even worse of course. can't use ur hands, too slow etc:p hehe:p

Anybody who says that soccer isn't a rough sport is wrong. Catch the Nigeria vs. Sweeden game that was just played? A Nigerian player got a cut above his eyebrow. They took him to the side, gave him stiches ON THE FIELD, put a bandage on, and put him back in the game. He then preceeded to head the ball a bunch.

That guy is a badass.

Sounds like a hockey player. :)

Also, the comparison between field hockey and ice hockey made by someone else is assinine. There are no Rob Blakes, Chris Prongers, Derian Hatchers coming at you in field hockey. It is a completely different sport. I don't care what you've been hit with playing field hockey, try taking a 90mph slapshot in the throat like a Canadiens player did a few years back by blocking a shot. (his name escapes memory) Chris Pronger was hit in the chest with a Dmitri Mironov slapshot(anyone who knows hockey knows how hard he could shoot) and dropped like a ton of bricks, had some heart problems right on the ice. It is not a hurt-free sport saved by some pads. The pads don't stop you from getting hurt, they try to prevent serious injury.

A person at our club died from a hockey ball passing _through_ his belly.

Jesus christ how in the world did that happen?? :Q:confused::Q
