Went to Chinese buffet today, and in the middle of my 2nd plate (had bites taken out of a few different things) I decided to call it quits. Waitress came by to check on us, and even though I was almost sure she'd say no, I asked for a to-go box anyway. Of course she said no, and just took the plate of food and came back with the check.
Now, I know that it'd be stupid to expect this place to let you take boxes and boxes of food out the door with you, but food that I've touched with my fingers, possibly taken bites of, and for all they know brought to the bathroom and put up my ass? Why not simply let a bit of leftovers go home with me? If it's obvious I'm not taking home an entire plate full of fresh food, what's the point of simply throwing it away? If it appears untouched are they going to recook it for a minute to kill any germs, and simply throw it back out on the buffet table?
I know some restaurants have contracts with pig farms that buy their leftover slop/leftovers, so is that where all the perfectly good leftovers go? Or do most buffet restaurants allow you to take home the bit of food on your place?
