I do not think that any DNS server is really slow.

The differences are the Routes that are taken through the Internet to get to a specific server.

These Routes are depending on variables that are Not related to the server. In some geographical locations it does not matter which DNS server is used, it might be always somewhat slow.

If it is really a problem it is a matter of personal trial and error depending on where you are at.

Many people use one of these.

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5

Why? Because they are the IPs of Verizon's public DNS server.

Verizon has one of the most dense Network in the USA, so the probability is High that it will work well without the need for personal research.

4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 are the two best standbys, imo.

They're Level 3 DNS servers that are anycasted so you always have a short route to them regardless of where you are in the US.
