I am trying to network my linksys router with a cable modem

but i need something called a dns server thing (not a network person)

how do i get that?

Who is you ISP?

Go to their website, specfically the support pages and search for the DNS server settings/address.

This will allow you to type in a web address (www.anandtech.com) and DNS will resolve the domain name to the proper IP(s) number.

Good luck!

Could call your ISP provider and ask for the DNS for your region.

Or, get to a dos promt and enter the command below.

Win9x: winipcfg /all

WinNT: ipconfig /all

I tried the ipcongif earlier but i forgot to add the /all

thanks

I looks like my ip lease ends in 1 week
so its not static then is it?

1 more thing
I went to a site called Whatsmyip.com and it shot out 63.224.190.132 as my ip

but with the ipconfig it says 192.168.2.243

what do I go with?

192.168.2.243=Private IP
63.224.190.132=Internet IP that is assigned to you by your ISP. You would most likely be using the Internet IP.
