DNS problems, cant access internal web.

It seems I am having a problem with intranet not being found. If I change the DNS settings in windows to route to our ISPs DNS servers, then it works, but other programs will not work that we use daily as well for some reason.

Anyway, how can I fix this problem? I just want to be able to access our exchange server internally by typing the URL not the IP address. I have DNS servers setup, but I guess I am missing a step somewhere or another.

I just migrated from Windows 2000 server /Exchange to Windows 2003 Server /Exchange.

Problem fixed. I figured out that the www and mail entries in DNS were not moved or somehow was deleted. All is good now.

Couple of questions:

Is the DNS service started on the server?

Is there an Active-directory DNS zone for your domain? Are their records for the various network services?

Is the server's DNS settings pointing to itself?

Check and see if you have a domain that just has "." (no quotes). If so then your server thinks it is a root server and will not check the Internet for external addresses. It is safe to delete it.

Things you can try are loading the support tools (download from Microsoft's site) and you can use DCDiag and NetDiag to look further into the problem.

^^ What he said..

Make sure your DNS server has the appropriate routes entered in for your LAN. PM me if you need any examples from a Win2K advanced server.

Yes the service has been started

I transferred the DNS zone from the old DNS server, but it quit working about the time I installed Exchange 2003.

Yes, it is pointing to itself.

"." ??? not sure what you mean by this one the domain is fbclubbock.org
