DNS Issues?

Ok, I figured it might be a DNS issue because it takes anywhere from 24-48 hours to update nameservers, but I
just want to make sure.

Anyways, here's the situation. I repointed my domain to another nameserver (i switched webhost provider).
As of this afternoon, I was able to receive email off my new email server. I came home and loaded Outlook 2k,
and to my surprise was able to retrieve off my old server! I went on the net and used a web-based pop reader,
and was able to retrieve off my new server as well as my old server! Now, my new emails are coming through the new server.

Why am I able to retrieve from my old server? I did a WHOIS and the domain's nameservers are pointed to
the new servers. I can still access my old webpage off my old server, and I think it's because my ISP hasn't updated its DNS
servers as of yet. Can this be the reason as to why Outlook can retrieve email from the old mail server and not
the new server?!?!?!?!?! it hangs when it tries to access off the new server.

DNS Root Servers are all over the net, not just one central database. They all have
to be updated, which is why it takes the typical 24-48 hours.

Try Traceroute.org and see if your domain is
going to the correct server/host.

So, if your domain resolves in Timbucktoo right now, the root servers in
Deeanessville might not be updated for 24-48 hours.

Be patient... 🙂

Could also be that your webhost has a longer domain name info refresh periods. Most are set at two days.

A tracert does show it pointing to the new server. I just want to make sure my emails aren't getting lost.
As a matter of fact, the email from the forum moderator came through my old server. Oh well...

They may have the MX records (Mail Exchange) setup wrong, or they still haven`t been
fully spread across the mighty 'Net.

I doubt it's the MX records. I can access off my new server if I go through a web-based reader. i'll wait for the update
