I'm sorry, wut? Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and assume you were about 5 years old when it came out. Duke 3d looked incredible for its time.
 
kinda hazy on this but i thought duke just looked ok for its time, it was id that was cutting edge. duke had competent "me too" graphics

Duke 3d was very good looking for its time. I'm not sure you'd call it "cutting edge", but definitely WAY above par, and the reviews of the time reflected that. Definitely not "outdated" as the ignoramus above claims.

edit: BTW id didn't have anything "cutting edge" at the time. Quake was still yet to be released, and their previous title to that was the Doom series, which were well outdated by the time Duke 3d came out.
 
It will suck, the hype is way out of control. There's no way it will meet expectations. Showing his dong when he takes a leak or a random ass-shot of some hooker won't make up for it.

Has Hell frozen over? Is it the end of the world? I'll (probably) get it for the nostalgia of playing Duke 3D back in the day.

Upon further investigation, you're correct. Forgive me, that was a long time ago.

Quake followed it within 6ish months. Duke3D looked good, but was on par with its' contemporaries. Here's a nifty video of the History of the FPS genre

I played Duke on TEN for a long time. I got up to the top 20 in rankings if I remember. I wouldn't be surprised if we crossed paths back then 😛 I also mapped back then and a few of my maps made it into rotation (Does Lazer711 ring a bell? Any map that was hot on his site would get played on TEN 😛)

what hype?, its been a decade of fcuk. that story of fail tempers any hype that can be created. people are just curious.
 
Hey the hardcore fans that have spent the past 12 years in the Duke Nukem Forever thread at the 3drealms forums will be the ones with the hype.

I am just hoping it's a fun game with awesome co-op and death er duke match.

I never played Duke on Ten.net but did play on Heat.net which later Microsoft Zone and then using some IP program.

Wow memories.

They should really have waited till 2012 to release 😛 I wonder how many gamers would hesitate putting the disc in their drive for fear of bringing about the apocalypse?
 
I read a preview of it somewhere where the guy spent some time playing it.

Summary: Crass tedious humor, terrible animations, confused gameplay where it changes from platformer, to puzzle game, to action....overall the guy seems pretty negative. And that's the preview where they are normally polite.

Hmmm.

Honestly, I don't expect much from it at all. I don't see HOW it could be polished and "ground breaking" with the number of writes and rewrites this thing has gone through at this point.

I WILL play it though. I mean I kinda feel like I have to...
