Well guys, it looks like Dnet has been thrown a pitch of bad luck. Their ISP up until now, who had been giving Dnet colo space for free, has decided they don't want to do it any more, and have ended the contract on friendly terms. However, this means Dnet is without a home. UD is temporarily hosting Dnet, but they ultimately need to move to a more permanent home. I'll save most of the rambling to myself, but in short, they need a 3Mb/sec connection and colo to host the servers, preferably in Texas. Check out http://n0cgi.distributed.net/cgi/dnet-finger.cgi?user=nerf for the full details, and please, if you can help Dnet, step forward.

Yeah... I saw that yesterday. As dedicated to the RC5 project as I am, I am surprised that, after being as supportive of Dave as they were, the good folks at dNet are asking people to step forward and donate more for the cause. I wouldn't be surprised if they find that particular well to be dry.

Geoffs, I hope you can't be serious. I know Dave's ordeal is important, but wishing the downfall of all of Dnet simply because of what Nugget said about Dave?

Don't mistake me here... I'm not wishing the downfall of dNet... I've put a lot of my own money into working on their projects for the fun of it and the comraderie of the team... I'm simply suggesting that the backlash caused by Nugget's comments, evident by the abandonment of the projects by many long-time contributors, may indicate that help from the community may not be as forthcoming as it might have been in the past. Is this sad? Yes it is. Is it the end of the project? I doubt it. There are still plenty of participants and supporters. Everyone on the dNet projects realizes that things are the same since Nugget's comments, and we're staying on for different reasons... mine is sheer stubborness :) However, I don't expect to move on to OGR when RC5 is done... I expect that I will follow the beaten trail to SETI... *that* could have been avoided. :(

I'm with GeoffS on this one. The things you say in the past have a way of coming back to haunt you and what Nugget did and didn't say over the McOwen issue spoke volumes to me.

I think Geoffs is right. Nugget is going to see some backlash from his behavior. I know I'm not inclined to help out DNet right now (not that I personally could). I support my team, and I always will, but I do not support DNet like I used to...

Out of curiosity, what did nugget exactly say? I was temporarily living under a rock at the time.
