DnD: Dragonshard?

Anyone try this out yet? Besides having one of the best starting movies ever, it's kind of... different. Your heroes don't level, but every unit does, multiple times. The way it works is very interesting. Resources are less the worry, strategy is a lot more important. I managed to get a battle so big that it brought my computer to it's knees! I love that.

The only thing I find odd is that they have heroes, but only units level up, and the units get soldiers to tag along plus they have their own unique abilities too. It almost makes it pointless to have heroes, and it makes it hard to manage a battle. If you got a couple dozen units, it can be hard to use even half of their abilities before the battle is over. Too much of a good thing can go to waste here, but it's not necessarily a negative.

I hated the interface...and it looked cartoony, coming from a huge wc3 fan that must say a lot about DnD. And ya I have the same gripe with the heroes thing.

The graphics were bad. The strategy nonexistant. The game seems to become item based for the heroes rather quickly which would be okay if this were hellgate or diablo but its supposed to be RTS.

My rating = Meh.

Not a bad game but I had some severe slowdown to the point where the game became unplayable (this on an X2 4400, 7800 GTX and 2 GB RAM). At best, it runs somewhat choppy, at worst, it's a slide show.

Graphically, it does not seem so impressive to warrant the slowdown so there must be some other bug causing this. Doesn't seem to be dual core related either as I tired setting affinity to a single cpu core.

Anyone else experience this?

I did have it slow down during a massive army clashing that didn't stop for like 3 minutes. But it wasn't that slow, and by all rights your system shouldn't slow down. I think you have an issue on your end.

Graphics are a non-issue with RTS's. There is strategy, unless you play on easy 😀isgusted;

I don't know what you mean by item-based, I don't get hardly any useful items like other RTS's with heroes.

In fact, it almost seems like you are describing WC3, not Dragonshard.

not just me ...

From Dragonshard support forums

Other games run fine ... at some point you can't be bothered to troubleshoot anymore and you move on. Too bad as it's not a bad game

I didn't bother to check the website further after seeing the latest news is 6 months old. How can they not have an announcement at least about the game being released? WORST GAMESITE EVER. But yeah, game ain't half bad. Nothing major.
