A friend told me to enable DMZ Host in my router to speed up torrents. It really did improve the download speed dramatically. Before I had to leave the computer on for at least an entire day to download a ~1GB file, now it takes approximately an hour or two. It says that it allows a "single networked device to be fully exposed to the Internet." Should I turn this off when I'm not downloading a torrent? Is it safe to use this at all?

If you want your computer exposed to the world then a DMZ is for you. Otherwise I wouldnt leave it in there 100% of the time.

Is there any way to get the increased torrent speed without using DMZ?

Yes. You just need to forward the port that the torrent program uses.

No way in hell would I forward all ports (enbable DMZ) for my computer.

No way.

The Internet is filled with constant barrages on all ports/services searching for vulverabilities. I'm not paranoid, I just see what is out there.

Whatever you or your client sets it at. Some use a port range (1 per torrent for Bittornado).
