I too have had a lot of trouble getting it to communicate with my computer. It worked great at first. Then it didn't work at all. ECP was set up; tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still nothing.

I thought maybe it was the player itself or the cable. So I got their customer support staff to give me an RMA and I sent it back. They sent it back to me with no documentation on whether it worked or they fixed it or what.

It still doesn't work at all (as far as communicating with the computer). Kind of pissed. I really liked it at first. If anyone finds a way to get it working (this is on a non-Athlon computer) please post!!

So it appears that the communication problem is rather widespread and not exclusive to Athlon systems. That's really outrageous! How can a manufacturer push a product into the market without a reasonable degree of knowledge that the product works? For crying out loud, it's a MP3 device the purpose of which is to communicate with the computer!

Maybe we need to bombard their customer service with complaints regarding the communication problems, citing the fact that we know it is a widespread issue. I know they have (or are planning to release) newer models that use a USB connection. If they work better, they should allow us to return ours in exchange for the newer model.

I agree. Do you have any thoughts about how to go about, i.e., individually or with some sort of concerted action?

i also got an RMA and was going to send it back to d-link for servicing; though i have been lazy.

they didnt even sound too surprised that there was a problem when i was explaining it though they didnt offer a solution. but awp, if they didnt fix it, did you try contacting them again? i will probably send my unit in sometime to get it fixed though right now with 4 songs on it is better than none. just gets a little tiring...

I talked to customer service again and since I have had so many problems with it, they MAY allow me to exchange my DMP-100 for a newer version. I would have to pay the difference, however.

The CS rep hinted to me that it would be better to say the retail price when I purchased it rather than what I may have actually paid for it. That way there may only be a $20 charge to upgrade to the new CD/MP3 player they have.

I still have to talk to someone in the RMA department and, while I left a voice mail, they still have not gotten back to me.

Actually, I had a question if D'Link does allow me to exchange for a CD/MP3 player. Does anyone know whether CD/MP3 players can handle multiple session CDRs? Or do you have to burn 100 MP3s all in the same session if you want to listen to them on your CD/MP3 player?

I can't seem to find this out about any of the CD/MP3 players available.

AWP - how did you manage to get them to offer to swap MP3 players? I'm sick and tired of not getting mine to work on different machines and ready to throw it out the window. I've had some email contact with the Dlink guys, but haven't be a pain in the ass customer.... Please contact me offline if you'd like - hysteria_1999@hotmail.com

BTW - 4 machines I've tried:

(1) Celeron II 850Mhz / Asus p3v4x mb / Windows ME (worked once)
(2) Celeron 500Mhz / Abit Bp6 / Windows 2000 (worked once)
(3) Toshiba 2590CDT / Celeron 400Mhz / Windows 2000 (never worked)
(4) NEC 2650 / Pentium 150Mhz / Windows 98 (never worked)

Has everyone tried the PINE software? It worked better for me, they have the same player. I have a toshiba laptop and it wouldnt work, and on my CompUSA Laptop (yes compusa sucks, but I got the best deal ever on it) it works great. I havnt tried my athlon system, though I should.

Just got off the phone with their RMA department. They are allowing me to return my DMP-100 in exchange for the DMP-110, which is USB and HOPEFULLY will work better. They are charging me the difference in price, which is $29.00.

BTW, the toll-free number for D-Link is (800) 326-1688.

I'm still waiting. I called last week, and they said "we can't find your record."

Luckily, I photocopied my receipt & UPC. The CSR gave me a fax number, and said he would process the rebate. We'll see.
