DMC: Devil May Cry

cmdrdredd

Lifer
Reviews seem decent enough. At least better than I expected. Anyone play it yet? Thoughts? If its worth buying I will get it on PC but since it comes out for console first, figured I would find out what people think about it.

Does the 360 version suffer from bad textures like the demo or is that fixed?

edit: fixed typo in title

the art direction they took isn't something I like, but if the gameplay is good I'll take a look.

In my opinion, the gameplay is severely lacking. But what do you expect from the clunky fighters of Ninja Theory's past...

30 FPS as well.

played the demo for a while, just mashing on PS3. Could not stand the smarmy main character. I hope the Devil wins this one...

If the rest of the game is anything like the first 5 levels, it's going to get old real quick. So far it's been a rinse and repeat of run into room, get trapped, defeat enemies, run to next room. And the cut scenes are starting to get annoying.

I'd rather play a game like God of War or Prince of Persia. DMC is fun for like.. 30 mins then it gets old.

I liked the first one, then lost interest. I played DMC4 when it came out and just didn't like it.
I played the new one, and I don't think it's that bad. It's more like the first one. There are too many cuts away from the action, but it's entertaining for a while. I play a level at a time and quit. I do like the music and the visual effects are pretty cool.
I don't care much for the story, so to me it's just a fun game to crank up loud and kick ass for a while.

p.s. I am playing it on PC.

I played the PC version and I had a lot of fun. I thought the art direction was the best I have seen so far. I don't know why people hate on this game.

Top 3 reasons

1) Main character sucks, terrible writing and voice acting, main character is an unlikeable douche who does stupid things.

2) Gameplay is extremely easy even on hardest difficulty. Lets say for DMC3. even normal mode was pretty damn hard to pull off combos if you were new to the game. In DMC, even hardest is a joke.

3) Combos are extremely limited especially late game (yes, the only game in which you get less choices of what combos you can pull off the later the game goes, this is because the game limits weapon choices and so your effective combo list is halved) and there are almost no end game combos that actually take practice to use. In DMC 1234, you could pull off amazing combos that took absurd amounts of practice and skill to pull off and would be given the almighty score of a SSS. DMC has none of this and has an extremely simplified casual combo system that gives you SSS ranks for being able to mash the X button.

The death of the DMC genre signals another end to another genre defining action game. DMC1/3 are generally regarded as some of the greatest action games ever released.

Hopefully (and from the looks of it, probably) the game sells poorly and the DMC name can actually just go away before its defiled even more.

Or you could just view it as a game that is based in the DmC universe in a divergent timeline. The people who complain about DmC remind me of those who were Star Trek fans that didn't like the reboot.

People who play long series of games need to remember that the nostalgia you get when first playing a game of its kind is never going to return. I never played any of the previous ones and I throughly enjoyed the game. I am fan of Darksider series as well. I understand it was much more linear than those but at the same time I honestly didn't mind it.

I just beat it and I have to say it isn't that bad.

I would give it a 7.5/10. Don't buy it at full price though wait till it comes down since there isn't really much to do after you beat it.

i know this game only from gameplays, trailers and reviews. But it looks pretty impressive. I'm thinking about buying it. But honestly i'd prefer PC version but as far as i know, it hasn't been released yet.

It has already been released for the PC.

Really? That's great. Can you tell me in which platform you prefer to play? PC or Xbox?

The PC version does have a distinct advantage in one aspect: frame rate. The console version is locked at 30 FPS, which may irk some that are used to the higher framerates from the predecessors. It shouldn't take a beefy system to render the game at a decent quality, but of course, a higher-end machine will look even better.

So, if your PC is at least "okay", you may want to consider playing it on a PC as long as you're not opposed to playing on a monitor vs. a TV. Of course, you can just hook your PC up to a TV. 😛
