DMA problem in XP

I have a XP Pro installed in a PIII 1100 system with an ASUS P3 - bf Mobo. Updated BIOS.

I have a Lite on 52X CD Rom on secondary ide as master and a
Lite On 16/10/40 CD RW installed as slave on the same secondary ide channel.
The 52X shows up as UDMA 2 in XP. and
the CD-RW shows up as PIO Mode 4.
I have BIOS set to auto detect on these drives,
XP is set to DMA if available.
Both drives are capable of DMA 2.

Any ideas? Have tried the uninstall/install routine. Just keeps putting the slave at PIO Mode 4.

My final question is; does it matter in drive performance or just CPU utilization?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my LG 16/10/40 CD-RW drive that I just got for xmas. It says it supports DMA 2, but it was only showing up as PIO Mode 4 in the BIOS. When I read the review of the drive at CDR Labs, I saw that they had the same problem. Then, I went to LG's website and got the most recent Firmware, installed it, and it now shows up as DMA 2 in the BIOS! I'd give a firmware update a try, if that doesn't work, I'd check the newsgroups and forums for any posts on the subject. Good Luck!
 
I tried a firmware update from the Lite on site. It actually is a rebadged Buslink.
Works great, just wanted the DMA mode in case I was ever doing another task while burning.
I will check around.
