Installing this CDRW on my system (A7V) was...wierd. The Auto setting in Bios disabled DMA support and I when I checked the DMA box in Win98 it (the checkmark) would disappear after a reboot.

When I manually set the drive type as CD in bios and set the DMA to mode 2, Win98 did not detect it. I then tried mode 1 - same result. When I set it to Mode 0, it was detected in windows and I was able to check the DMA box in properties. What the heck is mode 0?

I have this drive on the secondary IDE connector by itself as a master. The primary ide connector has a hard drive and CD as primary/slave. My 7200 rpm ata-100 Maxtor is connected to the Promise ATA-100 controller. When I put the CDRW on the ATA-100 connector it also did not assign a dma mode (the hard drive is detected and assigned mode 5).

Any ideas what is going on here? My drivers and bios are all latest revisions. I flashed the firmware on the CD to the latest version.

I had some difficulty installing this one on my system too. Even though I had a bay, I didn't have the right cables to make things easy. I had to flip this one and my dvd drive to make this the master and the dvd the slave. I need to get longer ide cables to reconfigure my system properly (had to disconnect my zip drive currently, but I never use it anymore).

The drive burns great now, but it was a royal pain.

I didn't check the DMA stuff..
