dcdomain, did you finally get the hotfix work?

This is the benchmark i have with sisoft sandra 2001 after the hotfix: 21565
I didn't benchmark before hotfix 'cos the hard drive to damn slow.

You know what, when I compare the benchmark in Windows ME its made me think this hotfix worked, why? its only 18520 in Windows ME!!!

soundsation, the hotfix might have worked, then again, I only tested it after applying the hotfix and going through the registry hack. Not sure which was the one...

However, nothing changed in the IDE under system properties.

I have the same problem with my MSI K7T Pro 2-A, with a Maxtor ATA100 drive. I haven't applied the hotfix yet, but it should be running in ATA66 mode by default, right? The reason I ask this is because ALL my system sounds skip when the hard drive is accessed. That includes MP3s, IM sounds, ICQ sounds...etc etc.
If I apply the hotfix, with it help my sound skipping problem?
thanks!

Just did another test... can't freaking break 20000, only got 19969.
KPro, no it won't be running at ata66. Because Win2K (if that is what you are using) does not recognize ata100, it'll drop the drives down to PIO mode. You won't be able to enable DMA without using the VIA drivers (which screws it up by labeling it SCSI), the hot fix, or the registry hack. People have had mixed results...

yo2tup, sorry, nope, not using the Via drivers. Them suckers make your stuff read as SCSI on the os level. Screws everything up. When I did use it, I used the 4.25's. For some reason, they didn't install the busmaster drivers, so I went ahead to the Soltek site and dled the busmaster drivers there.

I forgot to tell you why I could break 20000.
Okey this is the reason, Maxtor hard drive sold with acoustic management on, this make drive slow but quiet also they came with write verification on.
I disabled write verification and modified acoustic management to get this result, use the switch /fast instead turn off acoustic management, you will get the faster hardrive than you turn it off.

If you wan to know how go to
Acoustic management

Write verification

And after that your hard drive is getting faster!!!

I would mess with that acoustic stuff, but I'm a light sleeper, and I love the fact that is makes ZERO noise at night. I have 2 computers running in here and I couldn't take much more noise.
Anyway, I'm very satisfied with the hotfix, no problems at all. Cant wait for SP-2!

I just installed the HOT fix from microsoft and found a small increase. Sandra Scores: 39400 before, 39900 after installing it. It didnt hurt nothing so I guess it was worth it. I am running KT7-Raid (running Raid 0), 4.25 4 n 1 drivers, SP1 on win 2k

My cdrom is so darn slow though, and it didnt help that cant figure out why!!!
