DMA Checkbox question

I have a system in which the DMA checkbox would stay checked with my old maxtor 8.4 gig drive. Now i've gotten a new 30 gig UDMA 66 drive with the same system except for the addition of windows ME and the DMA checkbox for the new harddrive won't stay checked. Any ideas?
 
You may not have installed the correct bus mastering drivers when you installed Windows ME. Try reinstalling the bus mastering drivers for your particular chipset (VIA, Intel, etc.).
 
I have an abit bx6 1.0 mobo and the intel 82371
AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE controller software is what windows me chose for the drivers.
