DLT3C Athlon 1800+ OC

Im relatively new to overclocking so Ill make this fast. I can obtain a DLT3C Athlon 1800+ (Tbred b). Supposedly, these things can run stabily under fsb as high (maybe higher) than 200mhz. I dont want to be spending more than 200$ and so I am keeping my Mushkin PC2100 level 2 ram rather than upgrading to PC3200 level 2. In addition the Mushkin ram I have is known to be able to OC to fsb 166 @ 2.75 volts (still under warrantee) while keeping the level 2 statistics.

My question is, will it be detrimental if I push the 1800+ to fsb 200+ while keeping the ram locked at 166mhz? The mobo will be the ABIT NF7-s

Since the multiplier is unlocked, I'd just set them both at 166 Mhz, and increase the multiplier to get your desired speed.

Yes, but then he would top out at 2083mhz. I suppose that's still a pretty decent overclock, but with better ram you could probably hit at least 2200mhz. It sounds like it's not worth upgrading your memory tho.

Yeah, unfortunately, 2x 512 PC3200 Mushkin Level 2 costs over 350$.

Also, I do not know anything about raising the voltage for the CPU. I have seen it within the BIOS, but I do not know if I should raise the voltage in such a way like: Every 33 mhz fsb boost = 0.1V increase (or is it plainly trial and error for cpu voltage).

Nope... his motherboard unlocks all multipliers above 12.5... not just 12.5 and below like my A7N8X Deluxe =)

With stock cooling I wouldn't push that chip higher than 1.775v. Generally, keep bumping up the clock speed until you can no longer boot into windows, then start slowly bumping up the vcore until you obtain 100% stability. Use Prime95 to stability-test.

You've got a win-win situation as if you can't reach your goal in a month with the stated memory, you can sell the memory or the chip. That chip is sought after.

You might try buffalo ddr333; it's nice and it's cheap. I mean when you cross that bridge. But I would definitely try it if I were you. What the heck, the fun is in trying! And it's not like you're buying a pentium 2.4C with that kind of cash outlay; I know, money doesn't grow on trees but that's a chip you can turn around if you treat it sweet.
