I have a 65" dlp and I know there were previous posts a while ago but I wanted to know if there was a way to professionally calibrate the tv. (Like fine tune the colors so its the best possible picture as can be) I want to do this w/o haveing to pay someone to do this is there software that can assist me or would professional be the best way.
 
You can put in a DVD that is THX certified and run the video optomizer. That's the best I can suggest, it should give a very good picture quality if you follow the instructions on screen.
 
A more complete calibration test can be found on a DVD called AVIA.

If you plan on watching HD content though, you'll need to calibrate it using AVIA II.
 
Picture quality is pretty subjective when it comes to color calibration. I just try to keep the reds deep but not blooming and the whites nice and white without being glowing. Flesh tones should be neutral and look natural.
 
professional will cost you hundreds of dollars. the custom calibration settings will drift over time, requiring you to call said pro again - and again.

If I was very critical of picture quality, was hesitant about spending the cash I'd do the following. Buy a calibration disc and calibrate your monitor. Watch movies on it like that for a few weeks. Then get a professional to calibrate it. Then see if the difference is worth the money.
