The bulbs/lamps are user replaceable and normally run from ~$80-$200 with about a 4000 hr lifespan.
I saw some for mine on Amazon for $35 with prime shipping! Of course the quality of those would be highly questionable. It was $55 for one with a 1 year warranty and supposedly a 6000 hr life span. $120 for the official OEM bulb and housing ($100 for just the bulb)
However, you'll have to remove the lamp from your current housing and put the new one in. This requires you to be very careful because you need to avoid obvious damage to the bulb and also getting fingerprints on it. Just like when you replace a bulb in a car's headlight, you don't want to get oils from your hands on the bulb.
I considered it for my TV but after looking at the housing I figured it wasn't worth it. There were some plastic clips that looked like something I would break
I got like 18,000 hours on my original DLP bulb.
I'd be pissed if the current one only gets 5k.
Reading around from my issue and 5k seems like a fairly common time frame. Also I would be really curious to see the difference between your bulb and a new one.
