Was out trying to find something to do with the $20 off $50 coupon for Office Depot and ended up at OfficeMax which to my surprise was having a sale on DLINK wireless gear.

THe standout winner was the D-LINK DWL-650 wireless care for only $39.99! I've been using one of these cards for almost a year now, and the chance to pick up another was too much to resist. They had 10+ of them in stock, all for $39.99 ea.

SKU# is: 7 90069 22840 7
OfficeMax Store# 518

I checked the officemax website and its listed there for $99, so this looks like B&M to me.

Happy Hunting

give em a call, it looked like it was part of their back to school sale. I believe OM is blowing out all their old 802.11b gear to make way for the new DLINK 22megabit stuff.

These have been $39.99 at the local OM for at least the last few weeks. I picked one up to use with my 39 cent access point from the CC pricematch a couple weeks back. I was having trouble getting WEP working with my 3Com card from work, so I thought I'd give this a shot. The signal strength was crap compared to my 3Com card. I live in an apartment, if I went into the room next to my AP, the Dlink card showed a Very Good signal. If I went into my dining room, it went down to Good. My 3Com card has Excellent signal strength everywhere in my apartment. So once I figured out what I was doing wrong with the 3Com card, I took the Dlink back. I believe the poor signal strength has something to do with the low price. But hey, for $40 it worked.

I dunno, i've done a good deal of wardriving with my DLink, i think it's the quality of the antenna on your AP and its positioning which will make the most difference

For those whose officemaxes are far away or they are playing stock games with you, give Circuitcity a try. With the 110% pricematch the card comes to $34.99. Not the latest and greatest technology but not bad for $35. Now all I have to do is find an access point or wireless router for cheap. 😛

For Linux / BSD all the major stuff works. For windows however the two programs are APSniff or Aerosol.

Well I know for a fact that the DWL-650 works with the NEWEST version of NetStumbler. However it is still beta testing Prism WLAN chips so it is still a bit buggy but it does work. Also you have to be running NDIS 5.1 (which only comes in WinXP).
