DLink DI-614+/DWL-650+ latest firmware/driver problem?

Is there anybody else running this combo upgraded to the latest firmware(2.03g) on DI-614+ and the latest driver(2.2) on DWL-650+?
I'm having problem after that. The DWL-650+ is plugged into a Dell Inspiron running WinXP. It has a rather funny symptom. When system boots up, it gets a wireless connection, then after a couple of seconds, it drops, after another second, it picks up again, only to drop it again couple of seconds later, and so on. At this point, if I put the machine to hybernation, then wake it up, everything starts working! the connection isn't dropped any more.

On top of that, I found this happens only when I have WEP enabled. If I use the factory default settings, i.e., no WEP, it works fine.

Anybody else seen this?

Sorry I can't help with your problem. I was looking into getting this combo myself and was curious as to whether or not you have this resolved yet. Have you tried their tech support?

I'm running a DI-614+ and upgraded the firmware to 2.10 and it fixed that problem.

I'm running the exact same setup you have. DI-614+ DWL-650+ Inspiron with XP and the latest drivers and firmware. No problems here. Keep in mind, the 2.03g firmware is beta. There's going to be firmware released sometime this month for the 614+ & 650+ that's going to dramatically improve the speed of the enhanced 802.11b. I don't know if the 2.10 firmware is the start of it, but probably is. Wouldn't hurt flashing to it to see if it corrects your problem.

I keep debating on whether to go with this one or the SMC equivalent. How is the quality of the dlink in general?


On an unrelated note. Kaervak, do you happen to play UT under that same nick?

I've gotten quite a good range off my setup. I can get around 250+ KB pretty much anywhere I go with my laptop. Quite impressive. And it's been a while since I've played the original UT with this nick, but every now and then I'm out there.

Yep. The firmware will be for their entire Enhanced 802.11b line.
