$300 for this Quadcopter/Drone is a really good price. It's an older model, but the new ones run about $1,100.

It will probably sell out soon. They had this on the site 2 weeks ago, and it sold out then even though it was $15 more.

Buy it now before I lose my will power and do it myself :)

How is this different from the DJI Phantom 2 V2.0 Quadcopter which is available for $499 via Amazon Lightning Deals? Scroll to the right.

Other than the price and the model?

Or are you asking how different the models are between one another? From what I have read, the Phantom 2 has a lot better flight programming and some other tweaks. For a starter quad, either is fine. The Phantom 1 is nice with a standard GoPro mount, if you already have a camera to plug-in....

That is a phenomenally good price, nice! I have a HAK909 & it's a beast, this one is even better!

The battery packs for this version are considerably cheaper than the new packs for the version 2 quadcopters. And there are mounts to hold 2 battery packs at a time that get the flight time closer to that of the new version. The batteries for the new model are nice and clean and simpler to use, but they are much more expensive because of it.

@ $315, this is almost an impulse buy for a drone. A great way to get started and less money lost if it malfunctions and flies away (for some reason this is an issue with quadcopters). I actually don't fly mine much because I'm afraid of it taking off with my GoPro attached (I won the quadcopter itself in a drawing, so I'm not heartbroken if I were to only lose that).

when are RC flying vehicles going to get better battery life? I see this says 15 minutes run time. How long does it take to charge - several hours?

I remember checking into RC planes many years ago and they still only had about 10-15 minutes of battery life back then.

main reason I haven't bought anything like this, besides prices. i'd be afraid it would lose power while still flying and crash into a tree i can;t climb up or into a river or something.

If flight time is a necessity then you can engineer your own platform to have longer flight times. 15 minutes is typically enough for most flyers to want to take a short break before going back for another stint. The 15 minute area often is also the sweet spot in the price/performance curve for many types of flying models. You can get higher flight times for more money but most buyers are looking to get more performance and put their money in that direction.

Phantom 1 batteries take a few hours to charge.

The stock battery you MIGHT get a full 7 minutes with a full payload.

There are 2700mah batteries for $23 on amazon that will get you 8-10 minutes.

Yeah, I'm still not willing to spend over $300 on something that I'm eventually going to crash and break.

Even if I was, I'd end up having to spend a lot more on extra batteries and a GoPro.

I just got myself a Hubsan X4 instead. That's only $70, and it has a built in camera. It's much smaller than this quadcopter, but I'm not going to be quite as sad when it breaks.

Trick is just to buy a bunch of batteries. Hobby King has cheap ones for different models. Also, only fly in big open areas like parks to start out with, and not over other people (crash risk).

Thanks everyone.

I'm going to wait until we have 45 minute flight time for $500 or less, maybe another 3-5 years?

Apparently, Phantom 3 is to be announced tomorrow.

Prices of v2 should go down then.

Can't wait actually.

Yeah, I recently sold my Phantom 1 for $350 last week. Was going to pick up a Iris+ but am waiting to see what DJI does price wise after their upcoming announcement.

This is a great price/quad to start out on. Especially if you already have a gopro.

DJI Phantom 2 V2 New Version RC Quadcopter Drone H3-3D GoPro Gimbal FPV Ready V3

that's in the title at least but I'm not 100% sure if it actually comes with the gimbal or not.

not a bad deal! the gimbal is $300+ by itself.
I tried it. It got lower tho. But still good price.
