DIY Watercooling tubing connections

It's a little late for this question, considering I already assembled my parts and have my system running, but the more I read, the more I wonder if I missed something.

The pump I got is a Hydor L30 with 1/2" fittings. The pump isn't really all that convenient for water cooling due to the huge 110v power cord on it that I had to route out a hole in the back of a case, but it works. The rad is a Black Ice Xtreme 2, also with what were marketted as 1/2" fittings.

So, I assumed these were both meant to be used with 1/2" OD tubing, and went with that, along with a swiftech waterblock with 1/2" OD quickconnects.

The only real problem I had when assembling these parts was trying to get the 1/2" OD tubing over the 1/2" fittings on the pump and rad. It seemed as if the 1/2" fittings were 1/2" OD as well, and so I really had to force the 1/2" tubing over the fittings. I got it all assembled, and I'm certain the tubing isn't coming off the rad fittings, but the pump fittings are another matter. They were extremely difficult to connect, and then you have to wind this nut backwards up the fitting to secure the tubing (or atleast this was the only sense I could make of the nut, cause it definately didn't go down over the tubing).

So, my question is... are the fittings supposed to be this tight? Is there any chance that my tubing is going to split from being forced over connectors that may have been too large?

the ammount of force it sounds like youwere exerting seems a bit much, but the hydor pump is 1/2" OD while the fittings on teh black ice xtreme can be eigther 3/8" ID or 1/2" ID, if you got the 1/2" ID thinking it was 1/2" OD that could be your problem.

You're right, I expected them both to be 1/2" ID, and the pump may infact be 1/2" OD. The pump was much more difficult to connect than the rad, but both fittings seem to be almost the same in size, although I didn't compare them directly to one another, just to the diameter of the hose.

Wonder how hard it is to find 1/2" ID connectors for a hydor pump.... Any ideas?

Everything seems to be working as it is, but I really don't like the connections to the pump, as they will prove impossible to ever remove, and I live in constant fear of leaks or broken hoses. :)
