I swear by these. Sadly, when Tang Band was bought by Speaker City, the price of these shot up by about $10 but they're still a ridiculous bargain at $40

TB was bought out by SpeakerCity, or just chose to make SC their primary distributor?

Hmmm...I know they're located together now, but that was the rumor being passed among the DIYers a couple years ago. When the prices for Tang Band drivers shot up, we all just assumed it had happened.

PE sells em

Yawp...PE and Acoustic Technologies (nee Nuera Acoustic)

However, PE doesn't carry many drivers--notably the W3-871S and the W8-740C...

Heh heh. Good ol' Bob.

He only sells the W3-871S but I don't think anyone, anywhere has done more testing with that driver than him...

Errr...not that any of that would help in this DIY subwoofer discussion :)

Indeed they have put a lot of effort into that driver.

I think we just took the DIY part on a tangent, it's still a bit of a subwoofer discussion ;)

UPDATE: Well, it's roughly done! For reference, it's a 40" piece of 18" diameter sonotube, with MDF ends, two ports, with a 12" Pyramid driver.

Total cost: $107, including hardware.

It's rattling my house away already :p

My next plan is to finish it alittle nicer with a wood finish. It will end up living between our couch and wall, so it's not going to be seen, but hiding it from Lola's eyes is a concern :D.
