Could you post the full size pics? (especially of the projector) Use pics.bbzzdd.com if you don?t have a pic host.

Is there anything stoping you from using a laptop LCD? If you could, buying a 15" Laptop LCD with bad back lights could lead to an HD projector.... Laptop LCD's usually have a higher resolution...

Where did you buy the screen for $15??? I got a projector (not a ghetto one) in a trade so I need to get a screen...

go to HD and get whats called polywall by parkland plastics, it comes in a 4x8 sheet.

some use it as is, if not you have an option to paint it which is what i'm going to end up doing.

you can ether use Behr Ultra Pure White, or what alot of people use is Behr Silver Screen alone or mized with other paint and use the silverscreen as a base

yeah the controller is an issue since there hard to find

but you can get a 15.4 WXGA (1980x1200) for about 200 used off ebay and there is a controller avail for about 300 that you can get, its quite expensive though imo.

if you want HD your best bet would be to build an enclosure for a 17in display and run at 720p.

I'll get some higher res pics uploaded tonight

Wow! that's crazy. So what, the old school overhead projector just shines through the LCD?

Yes, that is why they have "backlighting". Light passes through the LCD glass. The LCD crystal changes colour to represent what you see on screen.

I think it was tomsharware.com that got this whole DIY projector thing going. They did this a while back.

I know the whole concept of this is nothing new. Back during the APPLE 2c days, I can remember companies marketing similar monochrome LCD panels that you would lay on a overhead projector. I think 3M used to sell one, but I cannot remember the names of any others. If anyone knows what I am talking about please elaborate and post some pictures.

those panels actually got pretty advanced and they were the way to go for power point presentations and such before small LCD projectors got afordable, the panels got up to xga res and full color although there contrast ratio wasn't the greatest and responce time was a bit low.

It's been about 12-13 years since the first high cost ($10,000) low resolution projectors first stated to appear on the market. Back in circa 1994/1995 they ran at about 640x480 or lower and cost mega bucks. They had very poor image quality too.

Can I use a 2005FPW as a ghetto diy projector?

Any LCD panel will work as long as it will fit on your overhead projector.

the other option is to build your own enclosure, but then your tied to the FL of the lens on how big your LCD can go, at this time the biggest you can realistically go is 17in using a 500mm FL lens,

the tough part about alot lcds now is they route ribbon cables behind the Backlight and are dificult to extend to allow for use in a projector

A question...

I am building a new room, it is being insulated and drywalled soon. Could I just not texture the drywall and have it flat painted white? Would that produce good image?

alot of people do that, you would need to sand the wall to make sure its perfectly smooth and preferably spray the paint on.

for DIY screen info your best bet is to go to www.avsforums.com they have a specific section for building HT screens
