Not sure if this should be in here, but it seems like a proper place as any.

I got a new dog and did some research. This dog can jump over 4 ft. fences. I need to get a 7 ft. fence but for the life of me, I can't remember how to shop for new fencing. I measured my workspace, the fence, the gates, and I've looked over the city's copy of my home. I have over 44 ft. in length to cover, but every place that sells fencing (on the web) doesn't give me enough details. For instance, one website will say that it sells aluminum fencing that is 4' high, w/ 1 1/2" length bars, but it doesn't tell me how many of those are in one purchase, etc.. Insights? I haven't the slightest idea on where to begin.

I just buy the panels from home depot. We have actually had a number of threads about this, I recommend doing some searching and reading on the subject.

Well, it depends on what you're trying to fence. Jewelry? Appliances? Cars? It's really best to find someone who specializes in the exact goods that you steal, even if they don't give you the best prices, because that proves that (a)they'll actually be able to move enough product to keep up with you, and (b)they already have a good record of not getting caught and squealing to the cops.

I generally build my dog cages out of chain link fence. You should be able to pick it up at homedepot. If you want smaller gauge wire then you need to get that welded square stuff if you have a big dog. Do NOT use chicken wire, dogs will chew right through it.

I've got a smaller kennel built out of 2x4's and the welded wire, Its 4'x4'x8' It holds my brothers 80 pound german shepherd.

This dog is a Siberian Husky, so I don't think chain link will do me any good. I'll give my local suppliers a look.

Are wooden boards usually expensive? Id prefer oak planks instead of pinewood, though pinewood planks would be so much easier to get in bulk. Hmm

Chain link would be fine and last longer.

You can buy kits of chain link fences for kennels at Lowes. Like 8'x10'. I bought and put one together myself, but much easier if you have another person to help. However the boxer I had in there at times worked it's way through the bottom of the chain link, through biting or clawing twice. It probably would have digged too, but I bought some big stone tiles to line the inside boarder to make it impossible to dig under the fence.

Yeah, if chain link wont hold it then you may have a Velociraptor instead of a dog.
I've got a 1/2 husky 1/2 german shepher and it holds her perfectly. And it also held a stud I used with her, which was one of the biggest purebred husky's I've seen.

+1 to that. I like to have some of my friends test the guy before I use him, to see how he stands up to heat. Saved me a truckload once...

I'd start by going to Lowes.com and doing a search for "fence".

You're welcome. :D

I installed a vinyl fence for our german shepherds many years ago. They sell them in 8' lengths x whatever height you need. So I bought about 8 panels or so and fenced in an area off of our deck, for a few hundred bucks. Rented a post hole digger as I recall, and used some quick setting congrete to set the posts. And it still looks good today. Functional too. One of our dogs rather liked eating/chewing on the vinyl fence spindles, so we tie-wrapped a chicken wire fence inside of the vinyl fence.
