Well, I never thought we'd be having a discussion on whether DIY dentistry is a good idea. You guys never cease to amaze me. :D

Canada? Isn't it all free! I could get an appointment at worst a day or two.

It's free, but the problem is my dentist office overbooks way too much. Like if I was to make an appointment today, I might get in 3+ months. I made this appointment before Christmas when I noticed the filling was starting to wear out and looked like there could be a cavity. I noticed yesterday that it started to separate.

Went to Shopper's and they had nothing as far as dental repair kits. I will try Walmart tomorrow. Thankfully I'm off so I can run around town when stores are open.

Why don't you just pay more to go to a better dentist that is less booked?

It says a lot when you are considering chalk, putty epoxy ... Just latch onto that fucker with some pliers and yank it out.

try polident?

Was not able to find it at shoppers (everything else is closed today), but I'll have better luck tomorrow when Walmart is open, I'll see if they have it. Come to think of it, tomorrow is Family day, I'm not sure if anything is going to be open, now that I think of it. Just my luck. Guess I'll just brush that spot the best I can, mouth wash, and hope for the best.

What did people do in the old days before dentists? There's got to be something I can safely stick in there to seal it temporarily.

I guess this is when it pays to live in America where I have such shitty health care. I had a filling fall out last week. I called my dentist that morning and I had an appointment to get a new filling that afternoon. So after about 6 hours from my filling falling out, I was able to get a brand new one put in. Only cost me 75 bucks, sure its wasn't free, but it was the same day, not a month later.

Yes that's awesome. Run into a serious medical problem though and you could be looking at financial ruin. It's a broken system. My wife had a day surgery recently that took 3 hours and is costing near 30k. Imagine the financial ruin I'd face if I happen to be unemployed with no insurance. My credit would be shot, possible bankruptcy, bill collectors calling and writing letters. While people that don't work at all and collect govt assistance wouldn't pay a dime. Now tell me that's not f@cked.

Yeah our system aint perfect either, it may be free, but it's hell trying to get an appointment for anything, you wait forever. The kicker is, our dental service is not even free like other medical services. It's usually paid for by a medical plan through the company you work for. If you are self employed you are paying through the ass. A filling is like 300 bucks. Though I have a feeling it's marked up knowing people have plans. I suppose if you show up without a plan it probably does not cost as much, or maybe you can get a plan through the government, I really don't know how it works TBH.

But overall I'll take that, over paying millions of dollars in treatments if I happen to get cancer. If I get something like that the last thing I want to worry about is how much it's going to cost.

As for my dental situation I went to walmart and they had nothing. So decided to just try to hang in there till my appointment comes. I'm brushing it a lot and using mouthwash before bed all the time. I was thinking, because it's not bleeding, it probably is a good sign that the part of the tooth that's exposed is "healed" into a blood clot, so it's kinda acting as a barrier. Or maybe when they did the filling they did not grind all the way to the core, so there's still some enamel left. Either way, think I'm fine, I just hope it is not in fact rotting inside out.

I don't think I've ever counted down the days to a dental appointment before. I hate going through dental procedures, but I'm looking forward to this one just to get it out of the way so I can eat normally again. Being it's my front tooth, I can't even eat something like a chocolate bar, or anything hard for that matter, or I'd definitely rip the filling out.
