I'm sure most of you remember this great little company from this thread: link

Anyhow, I just thought I'd point out that their next 2 for 1 sale is coming soon - link

This is the LAST sale before they go to higher pricing, so make sure to lock in those lower rates!

Steve

Edit: Thanks Rossman for the reminder.

Occasionally Dixiesys has one of our famous 2 for 1 sales. You never know when they're going to hit, sometimes we announce in advance and sometimes not.
They just had one in Oct. So now they have a sale every 2 months? Cyberwings, anybody? Everyone said CEO was great and he had all those back to back crazy sales.
Now I would worry the same thing happens to Dixiesys.

I wasn't on cyberwings, but I am on dixiesys. And I agree too much, too soon.

Even with the 2 for 1's, I think they're still making money. Many hosting companies are offering greater bandwidth for less $$$ at regular price than Dixie under 2 for 1. Dixie may offer more HD space than some under the 2 for 1, but HD space is cheap and they only have to pay for it once. Bandwidth is a monthly payment.

What the hell?

Gary, you guys are great, and 2-for-1's are great but those things bring nothing but chaos, unanswered support tickets, and more server downtime. Please give it a rest

I don't see anyway to get to that link from their main site or in their forums. Are you sure thats not some sort of temporary page?

2 problems...
1) super slow servers.
2) downtime unannounced and frequently happens during business hours.

You can either double your allotment of quotas on a particular plan, or apply the plan to two hosting accounts instead of one

If I apply for two hosting accounts, can I share one with a friend, which means I'll have two different account with two different login name?

Yes.... or you can do like I did last round and just double your space.

I would like to add that Dixiesys is having some billing problems right now. 2checkout.com and them are having serious issues. It means I didnt get charged for this month of service, but it also means they lost some serious cash this month. Following this up with a 2 for 1 seems dangerous.

Read Gary's message here.

What from what I have read, Dixie Systems is highly recommended. I wouldn't dream of comparing them to the site that shall not be named, and offering the two for sales seems to bring a lot of new business.

Ah, I see it now. I've been with dixiesys for a while, and have had great service. Most down time was caused by their old data center, and now with their new one I have seen pretty much no downtime.

I created and maintain a small site for my father and I have it hosted through Dixiesys. While, they're certainly affordable and adequate for his purposes, slow servers and downtime have been an issue for me, too.

When the 2 for 1 deal starts, I'll subscribe this plan with apply the plan to two hosting accounts instead of one:
Hosting Plan Description: Personal Site Hosting
Per Year: $19.95
Storage: 40 megs
Transfer: 1500 megs
Emails: 5

Actually, I only need one hosting. Anyone want to buy the second host from me for $10?

[edit]
I just asked my co-worker and he wants it :)

man, at $20/a year, dixiesys will have a ton of newbies to support....I hope you guys are prepared to wait...To those who got slow servers etc, what else do you expect. He has to be overselling to achieve prices this low, which is not neccesserily a bad thing, but do the math:

I bet they are leasing their servers at rackshack: thats what the traceroute to dixiesys.com says, I dont buy their "a small, local data center" bs

So lets say they put 250 hosting accounts on a server, with $20/year that amounts to $5000 a year revenue from a single server which is not bad, but subtract over $1500 annual server lease from rackshack, and you end up with $3500 which is about $300 a month per server to support 250 newbies per server. I wonder if their techsupport works for minimum wage(what is it in Alabama btw?) How big is their staff anyways?

All of the above calculations are assumptions, if they host their dixiesys domain with rackshack and the actual hosting server locally then the math will have take into consideration the cost of equipment(not a monthly fee though) and the annual cost of providing neccessary network bandwidth and infrastructure....This will probably mean even thinner margins and you know where that usually leads :)

Before Cyberwings went belly up, it was also highly recommended. They even have supporters set up a dedicated site to help newbies. And then they have those sales, ZAPping account 5X, ... They brought in a lot of customers for a 3 months period, and then the rest is history. Even after the severs went down for weeks, you still saw people defending how great CEO was.
I will be very nervous about these sales because it's supposed to be occasional. I think this will be 3rd time I have seen it since end of July, I might be wrong on this on though.

While you have some very valid points and concerned, you don't have all the facts. Do a tracert on www7.dixiesys.com, one of the servers over there, you will see it is NOT on a rackshack. There are 20 servers and only a few are still at rack, including the one that Dixiesys runs it's hosting site from. That does NOT make it a fly by night outfit. Also, while Dixie has 2 for 1 sales to build up a large base cliental, doesn't mean that it's alway going to be that way (actually, I'm sure of it). CW was giving away the baby with the bathwater. Dixie never has nor do I think they ever intend to give 5x deals, lifetime for $10 deals, etc...that's what drove CW into the crapper...not 2 for 1 sales.

As for having a lot of newbs..sure...but Dixie stress that they are NOT there to hold your hand...they will attempt to help you with server and login and email, etc, but they are NOT there to tell you how to build a site, maintain it, or design it...

Also, if you knew anything about the server control panels they use (Plesk, and Ensim), you would know that BOTH of these are incapable of overselling. CPanel allows it I believe, but not Plesk or Ensim.

And, before you ask, YES, I am affiliated in the fact that I am both a reseller and a mod on their forums, and I would be either if I thought they were fly by night....

I watched the CW fiasco with great interest before settling on a host to resell from and Dixie has been a very good host with reasonable prices and a staff that works hard. Gary feeds his family with Dixie...CEO Shawn used to say he was financially well off and money was not an issue...but living home with mommy, it usually isn't..lol
