Divx x.264 hard drive and dics based players?

Can you guys recommend me a good divx/xvid player that has both disc and hard drive that can also do x.264?

I don't need recording functions off television.

It has to be able to copy discs to the hard drive and than able to play them directly off the hard drive as well as play them from disc.

PS3? I don't use P2P or rip rentals, so I don't know how good the divx support is. Some googling should tell you.

Get the 40GB, you can easily put in a standard laptop drive without voiding the warranty. It supports dual-booting linux so you can also use linux software if the PS3's media functions don't do the job.

Otherwise, a HTPC? Antec NSK24xx case, mATX motherboard, dual-core CPU and a video card with hardware decoding and good software support.

Check out mpcclub. A Syabas NMT device such as from popcornhour or istarhd may do the trick with an external ROM drive or alternatively a USB flash drive.

I guess an Xbox 360 would also fit the bill, although the DVD upscaling isn't as good as the PS3's.

You will not find that in a commercial device.
Allowing for people to copy disc to the HD would violate copyright laws.
Even if it only allowed xvid files , its not likely to be produced , just for that feature.

.264 files take a large amount of cpu power to decode and display so you may want to look at some of the discounted HD-DVD players.

Best solution for what you want is like others suggested, a ps3.

Yep. I have an iStarHD and it works well for h.264, or pretty much anything else I've thrown at it.

Damn that sucks.

My modded original xbox copies movies from disc to hard drive.

What about a device that can copy movies through the network that you encoded? Is there a device? Computers do this why can't a commercial device?
