May 08, 2003 - Factor 5, most famed for their Nintendo Rogue Squadron series announced today an agreement with DivX creator DivXNetworks, Inc., to bring the DivX compression technology to Xbox Software Development Kits. Using DivX should allow for better cinematics in future Xbox games. Improvements to the Xbox SDK include:
- DVD-quality video with file sizes 7-10 times smaller than the standard MPEG-2
- Use of PixelShader Technology to offload CPU performance to the graphics chip
- Resolution support of up to 1920x1080 progressive scan (which is not even available with any current TV on the market)
- Full-screen and surface-mapped rendering support for video on 3D scenery

Sounds good as long as it's not compressed too much.
btw there is an error in their press release. there is at least one TV that support 1080p, the Toshiba LCOS...and probably some ultra high end plasma displays
