Philips DVD Player (DVP3140/37)

Progressive scan DVD: This DVD player reduces picture flickering, making movies crisp and clear when connected to a digital TV via component.

DivX playback: DivX playback enables you to play and share compressed high quality DivX video content beyond your computer.

Other formats: Besides DivX, this DVD player also plays DVD, DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW, MP3, WMA, JPEG and SVCD formats.

Video processing: 12-bit video processing preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture.

Enhanced audio: 192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analog sound wave form, yielding much richer audio.

Pretty sure I paid $38.99 for the 1080i/720p upconverting Phillips DVD/Divx model at Walmart. They were on clearance near the electronics stand, away from the other DVD players. Might have to hunt them down. Seems to work well, but I've only watched 2 or 3 movies since I got it a month or two ago.

I know people were talking about it in the 1080p model thread. Most of the boxes are spanish and french all over it with little english.

Does this thing play regular mpg files , too? I got the Magnavox MWD7006 from Walmart and I like it (also around $35) but it doesn't play straight non-dvd authored mpg files. plus no audio when fast forwarding but that's minor.

This dvd player sucks. Not powerful enough. You better off paying $14 more and getting a Philps DVP 5140

also the magnavox doesn't stretch video to fit the whole screen although this may depend on what output device you use, I don't know....

I don't know what you mean by more powerful, I just want something that will play whatever I put in it.

The Philps DVP 3140 will skip a lot during playback of divx and xvid files.

The Philps DVP 5140 or higher will not.

My grandfather has a similar model (although not exact) from Phillips, it does not and it is not listed there, so I am betting it does not play regular mpgs or xvid.

philps dvp 642 is ok but its pretty old. If your buying a new dvd player for divx and xvid the philps dvp 5140 or 5160 is better because it has more power, plays more different formats, more different subtitle formats, and more audio formats!
