Hey...I remember someone talking about a program that compresses divx clips into smaller sizes for PocketPC handhelds. Well, my Ipaq is coming soon so I just wanted to know if such a thing exists...

Hey Kermy...thanks man. Is this the thingy that can shrink a large divx into a small one without loosing too much image quality?

Use Virtual dub. Check the projectmayo forums, there's an encoding section, there's a guide for re(encoding) your divxes. Mine comes out to be around 200-250 meg for a 2 hour movie.

Daaaaamn. That's still pretty damned big. I saw someone that said they can get a 1.5 hour movie down to 60 megs.

Here's the post.

Tenchi Forever 2 (90 min.)

Final Size: 60.5 megs (fits on 64 meg card)
160*80 widescreen
Divx: 2kb/s
P/Q:medium
1 pass
keyframe: 300
deinterlace
min:max: 2:7
RCA:1000
RCR:10
RCDU:20

Audio 39kb/s
then virtdub to 44.100 khz 16bit mono (6kbs)

I don't know but those settings (especially the 160x80 widescreen) have me thinking this isn't very good quality...but he says it is.

Also...does VirtualDub (thanks...I was just reading the ProjectMayo forums when you said that...) split movies? What if I wanted to split a movie into two chunks or something like that.

Yes, it splits movies just fine. doom9.net has some great guides on that stuff.

Alright, thanks a lot guys. Hopefully, my 3635 will arrive soon.

Anyone got a hot deal on some CF cards or a PC Card sleeve?

CF cards, newegg has some good deals on Mr. Flash brand cards.

PC card sleeve, cheapest I've ever seen is via ebay. Usually goes for less than 100 bucks.

Hahahahahahahh! Dude...maybe you do need to go outside...but leave the lappy at home.

Man, I wish my campus was wired for 802.11 like some other universities....or Bluetooth. There's a cool Bluetooth sleeve for iPaq out.

IDEA

wouldnt it be great if you could buy a external cdrom for ipaqs that just takes normal batteries. Then you could go and travel with your ipaq, cdrom and a bunch of full quality divxes :)

In theory, that would be possible with a PCMCIA sleeve and a PCMCIA CD-ROM...but I don't know how long the power would last.
